Australian PM Anthony Albanese Marries Jodie Haydon in Historic Ceremony at The Lodge

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has created history by becoming the first sitting leader in Australia to marry while in office. The 62-year-old married his longtime partner Jodie Haydon, 46, in an intimate ceremony held on Saturday at The Lodge, his official residence in Canberra.

A Private, Family-Focused Ceremony

Close family members and friends attended the afternoon ceremony. Moreover, reports revealed that many public figures, including Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Finance Minister Katy Gallagher, ALP Secretary Paul Erickson, and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Tim Gartrell, attended the event.

Albanese’s son Nathan, and Haydon’s parents Bill and Pauline were also present at this emotional event. Moreover,  Haydon’s five-year-old niece acted as the flower girl. In addition, their dog Toto, a cavoodle, became the adorable ring bearer who has won hearts across social media. 

The couple also wrote their own vows and were married by a celebrant from the NSW Central Coast. Moreover, they privately funded the wedding.

Music played an important role in the event. Haydon walked down the aisle to Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest”. In addition, the couple exited the ceremony to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)”, which created a joyful and upbeat atmosphere. 

Their first dance was set to Frank Sinatra’s classic “The Way You Look Tonight”. In addition, guests reportedly enjoyed beers from a Sydney Brewery to add a relaxed Australian touch to the historic event.

Anthony Albanese and Jodie Haydon first met more than 5 years ago at a public event in Melbourne. However, Haydon is a financial services professional and patron of the National Portrait Gallery. Now, she has accomplished Albanese on numerous public occasions, international trips, and political campaigns.

Albanese proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024 on The Lodge balcony, presenting a bespoke engagement ring. However, the wedding comes 6 months after the Prime Minister secured a strong second term in office.

Haydon wore an elegant white gown designed by the Sydney label Romance Was Born, known for its artistic and bold fashion. On the other hand, Australian menswear brand MJ Bale crafted the suit of  Anthony Albanese for this iconic event.

Before meeting Haydon, Albanese was married to former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt, with whom he shares his son, Nathan. However, their marriage came to an end in 2019 after nearly two decades. 

On the other side, Haydon has since played a key role in supporting Albanese’s personal and political journey, including his successful re-election campaign in 2025.

Honeymoon Plans

Reportedly, the newlywed couple will enjoy a five-day honeymoon from Monday within Australia. However, the PM office has revealed that the couple will bear the cost privately. It means that they will not use public funds for their private expense.
