UAE Weather: According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), residents can expect a mix of cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and scattered rainfall across several regions as the UAE approaches New Year’s Eve. However, heavy rain is not forecast today. Still, lighter showers and low clouds are expected in parts of the northern and eastern Emirates, particularly in Ras Al Khaimah and weather in Sharjah.

New Year’s Eve Weather Across the UAE

The UAE will see fair to partly cloudy skies on Wednesday, i.e, today. However, there could be periods of low cloud over some coastal and northern areas. Humidity is expected to rise during the evening, potentially increasing the likelihood of fog or mist forming over inland areas by Thursday morning. Temperatures have already started dropping, as Ras Al Khaimah’s Jais Mountain is recording a chilly 3.5°C early Wednesday morning.  

Coastal cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi can expect daytime highs ranging between 21°C and 24°C. However, inland and northern areas are likely to reach around 20°C, with nighttime lows dropping to 10°C–12°C. Plus, higher elevations, including Jebel Jais, will experience significantly colder conditions.

Gusty Winds and Dust Hazards

Strong northwesterly winds will sweep across the country. Hence, it could reach the speed of 40 to 50 km/hr in an open area. These gusts are expected to lift dust and sand. In addition, it would reduce visibility, especially in the northern and eastern interior regions. Hence,  drivers and outdoor event-goers are advised to exercise caution as dust may affect highways and desert areas.

Scattered Rainfall in Northern and Eastern Emirates

As we mentioned above, heavy rainfall is unlikely to be scattered. Still, the UAE weather forecast predicted that a light shower might occur in the northern Emirates and islands, particularly Ras Al Khaimah and parts of Sharjah. Plus, coastal and mountainous areas are most prone to these localised showers. Hence, residents are advised that these showers will be light and intermittent rather than widespread.

UAE Weather Update in Key Cities: Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi

  • Dubai & Sharjah: The weather Sharjah and Dubai are expected to be mostly sunny skies during the day with some cloud cover. Evening temperatures will be cooler, and a few light showers could appear near the northern edges. Strong gusty winds may affect outdoor celebrations and beach activities.
  • Abu Dhabi & Western Region: The weather will remain mostly fair to partly cloudy with moderate winds. Cooler temperatures are expected, and occasional dust blown by winds may reduce visibility.
  • Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah: Increased cloud cover could bring patchy rain, while coastal areas may experience rough sea conditions due to strong winds.

Interior Deserts and Mountain Regions

Inland areas and mountains will feel the coldest temperature as nighttime lows will go around 10 °C to 12 °C. Moreover, fog or mist might form after midnight due to higher humidity levels. These conditions could make driving difficult, especially on roads near low-lying areas.

Rough Seas and Marine Advisory

Maritime conditions are expected to stay rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf. Waves could reach up to 7 feet by Wednesday evening. However, the Oman Sea will experience rough to moderate seas. Therefore, NCM has urged mariners, beachgoers, and water sports enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution, avoid swimming and diving, and suspend marine activities during periods of rough seas.

UAE Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

Thursday is expected to see a slight stabilisation in the weather. However, fair to partly cloudy skies and lighter winds are expected. Hence, it could lead to fog or mist in some inland and coastal areas. Sea conditions are forecast to ease, as they could become moderate to slight. The temperature might be slightly different by Friday. Winds will stay light to moderate, and the Arabian Gulf could become gradually rough by nightfall on Friday.
