Motorists who are travelling from Abu Dhabi to Dubai via Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road (E11) should be prepared for the significant lane closure this weekend, as per the Abu Dhabi Mobility Department. Moreover, the temporary restriction is going to be imposed in two stages. So, it could impact traffic flows near an important interchange.
Two-Stage Closure Plan on Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road
According to the officials, the first stage of the closure is going to begin at 10:30 pm on Friday, August 15, 2025. However, two right lanes in the Dubai-bound direction will be shut down. Moreover, the restriction will remain in place until 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025. After this, the second stage is going to see a shift to the two left lanes in the same direction from 10:30 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025, to 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Location of Works
The authority is conducting maintenance work near the interchange with Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road in the Baniyas West area. Notably, the stretch is a key route that connects the UAE capital to Dubai. Thus, delays could affect a large number of weekend travellers.
Authorities Urge Caution
The Abu Dhabi Mobility has advised motorists to follow the tips mentioned below:
- Drive carefully and follow all posted road signs.
- Plan ahead by allowing extra travel time.
- Consider alternative routes to avoid congestion.
The closure is focused on boosting the road maintenance work that will improve safety and travel efficiency in the long term.
Impact on Commuters
Drivers should expect slower movement and possible bottlenecks during the peak travel periods between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the timing of closure across Friday and Saturday nights. Therefore, logistics operators and public transport services are also expected to adjust schedules to reduce disruption.
Travel Tips for the Weekend
- Use navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze to monitor real-time traffic updates.
- If possible, travel outside peak hours to reduce delays.
- Keep updated through the official Abu Dhabi Mobility social media channels.
These planned lane closures are part of the ongoing infrastructure improvement aimed at maintaining one of the most important inter-emirate highways in the UAE. However, it is true that they might cause a temporary inconvenience. However, the work will ultimately result in safer and smoother travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
