The international organizations have appreciated the pioneering role of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the global humanitarian work. Moreover, they praised it, directed at its leadership, government, people, and local humanitarian partners, including the private sector.
Since its establishment in 1971, the UAE has contributed over $100 billion in foreign aid that has benefited more than one billion people across 206 nations. In addition. This milestone was highlighted during the World Humanitarian Day 2025 commemorations in Dubai, where the United Nations reaffirmed its close partnership with the UAE to boost humanitarian action throughout the world.
UAE’s Global Humanitarian Vision
As per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, development projects has more than 80 percent of the UAE’s foreign aid, and the rest supports humanitarian and relief operations. Rashid Al Hemeiri, Director of Development and International Cooperation, said that the important role is in crisis zones, like Sudan, Yemen, and Gaza.
Notably, the UAE has provided 45% of all humanitarian aid delivered to the Strip through land, sea, and air routes since the acceleration of the Gaza conflict. In addition, Al Hemeiri highlighted that the UAE is going to continue to stand with vulnerable communities globally, including missions in Africa, Asia, and even emergency deployments in Europe, such as Albania. under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Dubai Humanitarian’s Expanding Reach
During the commemorative event, Dubai Humanitarian and the UN hosted more than 100 global humanitarian leaders. In addition, the discussions focused on saving aid workers, who face increasing risk. Also, the UN said 2023 was the deadliest year ever, with 280 aid workers dead, and 2024 is looking bad too.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, appreciated the effort of aid workers. In addition, they mention, “They should never be targeted. Their sacrifices highlight peace and tolerance.”
Strong Partnerships with the UN and WFP
The UAE’s logistics hub in Dubai has turned into a lifeline for the world’s humanitarian operations. Around 60000 metric tons of food and World dispatched aid Food Programme (WFP) from the UAE, including 27 shipments to Gaza, this year alone.
Stephen Anderson, WFP Director for the UAE and GCC, said two decades of collaboration with the UAE. So, it calls it an important fast humanitarian response across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
