Lokah Movie Review: Strengths & Weaknesses
✅ What Works:
- Visual Brilliance: The film’s CGI and AI-enhanced visuals are on par with international standards. So, it gives you a Hollywood-like experience.
- Performances: Kalyani Priyadarshan shines in her new avatar, especially in action sequences. Naslen provides comic relief. On the other hand, Sandy Master impresses as the antagonist.
- Mythology Meets Modernity: The screenplay cleverly adapts Kerala’s iconic folktales into a contemporary fantasy thriller.
- Cameos: Surprise appearances by popular actors like Tovino Thomas keep fans engaged with the larger universe.
❌ What Falls Short:
- Weak Script: Indeed! The movie is visually stunning. Still, the plot feels thin and primarily focuses on setting up characters rather than delivering a strong story.
- Pacing Issues: The first half drags in places, especially during long introduction scenes.
- Limited Appeal: Despite strong performances, the fantasy theme may attract only a niche audience.
Direction, Music & Technical Brilliance
Director Dominic Arun deserves credit and applause for bringing visual greatness to the Malayalam movie. However, the shortcoming of the movie stops it from reaching its full potential.
Similarly, the background music of Jake Bejoy boosted the key moments but lacked the memorability of iconic tracks. On the other hand, Cinematographer Nimish Ravi captures the nightscapes and fantasy elements beautifully. So, it gives the film its magical aura.
Final Verdict – Lokah Movie Review
It is a good start to building a Malayalam Fantasy Universe inspired by folklore. However, the story could have been strong. Still, it has created excitement for the next parts. Moreover, it is worth watching if you are a fantasy lover.
