The UAE Cricket team is stepping into a broad stage with growing belief in its abilities as the Asia Cup 2025 is fast approaching. Moreover, recent performances from the UAE captain, Muhammed Waseem, and a senior batter, Asif Khan, have grown optimism that the UAE could soon break into the top 10 T20 Nations globally. Therefore, the former India International Robin Uthappa has supported the team.
UAE Cricket Team Competitive Spirit Shines in Tri-Series
The UAE showed fighting spirit despite losing matches in the ongoing tri-series in Sharjah, UAE. Captain Waseem’s explosive 67 runs off 37 balls against Afghanistan highlighted the ability of the team to challenge elite opponents. Moreover, the UAE has registered notable victories against established nations like New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh over the past few years.
Skipper Waseem accepted that inexperience played a role in their recent defeats. So, he said, “At one stage it felt like we could chase this down, but the lack of experience showed in the middle over. The more we play against a strong team, the better we will become. The confidence is still here, and Inshallah, we will return stronger”.
Bowling Remains a Work in Progress
Indeed, batting has delivered a motivating performance in the recent match. However, Waseem himself accepted that the bowling unit struggles, especially in the death overs. He stated, “We conceded too many runs in the final ten overs.” We are always giving it at the back end. We will learn from it, work on it, and take the positive forward”.
Robin Uthappa’s Backing: A Big Boost
As we mentioned above, Robin Utthapa praised the team for adding credibility to the upward trend of the UAE team. He stated, “The UAE has the talent and diversity to be a world cricket power.” Genuinely, I trust they have the potential to be one of the top 10 white-ball nations in the world of cricket. “
The Road Ahead: Asia Cup 2025
