Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) outsmart criminals? It is the bold bet UK-based anti-financial crime pioneer Themis is making with the global launch of its AI Investigator at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) auditorium.
AI Investigator: A Game-Changer in Fighting Financial Crime
The AI-powered platform is created to analyze millions of data points in seconds, as it uncovers hidden connections that criminals often bury under complex ownership structures and regulatory filings. However, the traditional investigations might take weeks. On the other hand, Themis says its system reduces the process to only minutes.
It is backed by the Innovate UK grant and trained on proprietary data of Themis. Moreover, the tool mixes adverse media scanning, regulatory checks, behavioral analysis, and pattern matching at scale. Moreover, it allows financial institutions, real estate firms, professional services, and governments to perform enhanced because of diligence faster and more accurately.
CEO: “AI Makes Compliance Instinctive”
Dickon Johnstone, Themis CEO, highlighted how criminals create complexities to evade detection. He told Khaleej Times, “Criminals think no investigator could ever analyze millions of data.. But our AI investigator does it quickly, what lies beneath”
He appreciated the AI-first strategy of the UAE by noting Abu Dhabi as the ideal stage for the launch. He said, “The UAE has taken the lead in AI with campaigns like the AI university and its national AI strategy. This forward-looking environment is exactly where breakthroughs like ours can grow.”
Why Abu Dhabi?
Abu Dhabi is investing Dh13 billion in AI between 2025 and 2027 as part of its Falcon Economy vision. Moreover, innovations like ADGM and Hub71 make the city ideal for the launch of the global launch.
Johnstone believes that AI will redefine compliance in only a few years. He said, “We will wonder how checks were ever done without AI. This technology makes compliance faster and automatic to give us the upper hand against financial crimes.”
Global hub for Fintech innovation
The launch of AI Investigator by Themis in Abu Dhabi highlights how the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is strengthening its role as the global hub for AI and FinTech innovation.
