The much-awaited Kantara 2, officially titled “Kantara Chapter 1”, has set social media buzzing after the release of its trailer by Hombale Films. Surprisingly, it is released on the 22nd of September, which coincides with the beginning of Navatri.
Moreover, the trailers give fans an epic prelude to the blockbuster Kantara (2022). However, the film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on the 2nd of October 2025, including the UAE.
A Glimpse Into the Storyline

As you saw in the trailer above, the trailer begins with a child searching for his missing father, which slowly unfolds into a story connected with folklore, faith, and mythology. Rishab Shetty portrays the role of Berme.

However, the story took a dramatic turn when Berme challenged the oppressive rule of King Kulashekhara (portrayed by Gulshan Devaiah). Later, the narrative entered a fight for justice and a budding romance with Kanakavathi (Rukmini Vasanth). In addition, we can expect a larger-than-life clash between god and evil.
Cultural Depth and Visual Grandeur
Kantara Chapter 1 stays true to the legacy of Kantara. Hence, the prequel delves into the origin of the Bhuta Kola ritual and the divine guardianship of land. Moreover, the film is created as a mythological journey and a cultural exploration.
On top of that, the sequence involving more than 500 fighters and 3000 extras is the highlight of the film. However, it was shot over 45 days across a 25-acre set. Therefore, it is said to be the biggest battle scene ever filmed in the Indian cinema.
Production and Cast
There is speculation that the film was produced under the big budget of ₹120 crores. Moreover, Kantara Chapter 1 is the most ambitious project of Rishabh Shetty. However, he co-wrote it with Shaneel Gautham and Anirudh Mahesh.
Moreover, B. Ajaneesh Loknath is back in the film as the music composer. However, Arvind Kashyap is the cinematographer, which promise the visual spectacle. Remember, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Pramod Shetty, PD Sathish Chandra, and Prakash Thuminad are the assembled cast of the film.
Release and OTT Plans of Kantara 2
The film will be released in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and English to ensure a wider global reach. Moreover, a paid premiere is scheduled on the 1st of October 2025, with the official release on 2 October 2025. Moreover, Amazon Prime Video has also acquired the rights to this film. However, it will digitally release after the 56-day theatrical window.
