The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced major updates to its entry visa. However, it has revealed four new visit visa categories and new provisions for the humanitarian and residency permits. Moreover, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) introduced this amendment as part of the wider strategy of the country to empower openness, attract global talent, and support its tourism and economic sectors.
Four New Visit Visa Categories
The updated rules include visas for the following professionals:
- Artificial Intelligence Specialists: Single or multiple-entry permits granted upon submission of a sponsorship letter from a licensed technology entity.
- Entertainment Professionals: Short-term visas for foreigners entering the UAE for temporary entertainment purposes.
- Event Participants: Permits to attend conferences, exhibitions, cultural festivals, seminars, sports events, and more, requiring sponsorship from an authorized public or private entity.
- Tourism via Cruise Ships & Yachts: Multiple-entry visas linked to approved itineraries, with hosting facilities licensed for tourism activities.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, said that these updates align with the studies on the residency friends and customer feedback. Moreover, the move shows the efforts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to boost competitiveness in AI, tourism, and global events.
Humanitarian Residence Permit

A new humanitarian residence permit is going to be available for one year, which can be extended under the approval of the ICP. However, it applies to foreigners from countries that are affected by wars, disasters, or unrest. Plus, it does not need a sponsor for approval. Moreover, the residency can also be renewed or cancelled based on the official reports.
Moreover, widows and divorcees, including Emirati spouses and foreigners, can now receive one-year renewable residence permits under conditions such as custody of children, financial solvency, and adequate housing.
Sponsorship Rules for Relatives and Friends
Residents who wish to bring relatives or friends are required to meet new income requirements mentioned below:
- Dh4,000/month – to sponsor immediate family.
- Dh8,000/month – for second- or third-degree relatives.
- Dh15,000/month – to sponsor friends.
Business & Transport Visas
- Business Exploration Visa: Applicants must prove financial solvency or existing professional practice in their field.
- Truck Drivers’ Visa: It will be issued as single or multiple-entry permits. However, it needs a transport company as a guarantor with financial guarantees and health insurance.
Strengthening the UAE’s Global Position
