ADEK Introduces New Ethical Standards for Schools to Promote Integrity and Professional Conduct

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has introduced a new framework mandating all schools under its jurisdiction to integrate six ethical standards for schools into their code of conduct. Moreover, the campaign introduces 19 positive behaviours created to support ethical and professional values in education. Plus, it supports a respectful, inclusive, and responsible learning environment.

Building a Culture of Responsibility and Respect with Ethical Standards for Schools

The new ethical standards of the ADEK aim to create a strong foundation for moral behavior within schools. Hence, it ensures teachers and staff uphold values that show the Emirati cultural identity and the national laws of the UAE. Moreover, the following are the focus areas of these standards:

  • Respecting national identity and Emirati cultural values
  • Maintaining positive professional relationships
  • Adherence to UAE laws and regulations
  • Responsible digital practices
  • Community protection
  • Promoting comprehensive safety within schools and society

Expected Behaviours for Educators

Under the new policy, educators are required to show fairness, respect, and inclusivity towards students and colleagues of all backgrounds, including people of determination and those with special learning needs.

In addition, teachers are also motivated to mentor new educators, maintain a supportive work environment, and pursue continuous professional development. However, the additional expectations are mentioned below:

  • Showing honesty and integrity
  • Complying with national laws and school policies
  • Safeguarding digital identity and promoting ethical AI use
  • Teaching students about cyberbullying prevention and responsible online behaviour
  • Reporting suspected abuse and ensuring safe learning spaces
  • Volunteering in community and environmental causes

Accountability and Enforcement

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) highlighted that non-compliance with these ethical standards might lead to disciplinary action, legal accountability, or penalties under its regulation.

Moreover, the department retains the full authority to intervene if the school fails to uphold these obligations. Hence, schools, educators, and teachers are required to comply with these standards to prevent punishments from the department.

Commitment to Educational Excellence

By introducing these ethical standards, the ADEK empowers its mission to create a transparent, professional, and respectful education system that replicates the vision of the UAE for ethical leadership, social harmony, and global competitiveness.

This framework strengthens the relationship between schools, educators, students, and parents. In addition, it ensures that the schools in the UAE remain safe, innovative learning spaces, and inclusive.  Moreover, the emphasis of ADEK on ethical values aims to create a new generation of educators who become role models for students and the community.
