Al Dhaid University is taking a developing step in higher education with the launch of the first academic programme, “Desert Science’ in the UAE. Moreover, this campaign aims to deepen the understanding of the desert environment and explore its potential for sustainable agriculture and development. In addition, it will provide students with hands-on experience through field research and practical training in the desert ecosystem.
Advancing education through global collaboration
While speaking to the Khaleej Times at Najah Dubai 2025, Dr. Nathir AlRawashdeh, Director of Admissions and Registration at Al Dhaid University, shared that the new program showcases the vision of the university to give specialised and innovative education that meets the needs of the local communities and meets international standards.
Al Dhaid University became an independent institution in August 2024. However, it was formerly a part of the University of Sharjah. However, it now operates in its second academic year.
Yet, the Desert Sciences programme is set to launch the next. In addition, it will be the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Hence, this launch marks a significant milestone in environmental and scientific education.
First-of-its-kind partnerships in Geology and Veterinary Medicine
The university already hosts many unique programs, like Geology and Veterinary Medicine. However, both were introduced in collaboration with the leading UK universities. Moreover, the Medicine course is offered in partnership with the University of Liverpool. Plus, the Geology programme gives a joint degree with the University of Exeter—a first in the UAE.
Al Dhaid University Supporting local talent with scholarships
Students with the Sharjah UAE Passport are receiving full tuition waivers to motivate enrollment. Moreover, students from other Emirates enjoy a discount of 50 percent. Hence, it shows the dedication of the university to accessible education for the country’s students.
Expanding academic offerings
Besides the Desert Sciences programme, Al Dhaid University is creating other specialised programmes such as Sustainable Agriculture, Food Science, and Technology. In addition, the university is gearing up to come up with the updated versions of Sustainable Agriculture, Food Science, and Technology. Hence, it ensures alignment with the local community’s needs and the future job market.
The university continues to strengthen its role as the hub for innovation and applied research through these programme, which aligns its curriculum with the UAE Vision 2030 for sustainable growth and knowledge-based development.
