Abu Dhabi Hosts Global Conference on AI in Weather Prediction

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) officially started the global conference on AI in weather prediction called “Artificial Intelligence in Weather Prediction and Environmental Services Enhancement” today at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. However, the event gathered more than 50 international experts and runs until September 11, 2025. In addition, it is organized under the patronage of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

A Global Scientific Platform for AI in weather prediction

The event will have around 12 dedicated sessions. Moreover, the conference will provide a scientific hub for thought leaders from Google, WMO, IBM, NVIDIA, and the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast. Moreover, experts from the technology firms, academic institutions, and operations to exploring AI-driven solutions in weather prediction.

This platform will highlight how Machine Learning (ML) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve forecasting systems, especially for the developing nations that need scalable, accurate, and reliable weather services.

AI-Powered Weather Forecasting

Day one focused on Earth System prediction and changing ML/AI models that could transform the forecasting. Speakers highlighted the partnerships between academia, global tech companies, and startups as important for boosting innovative climate solutions.

Discussions showcased that AI can boost forecast precision, and human expertise is important for validating outputs and ensuring correct applications. Moreover, experts also highlighted the importance of trust, inclusivity, and accessibility in AI-based weather services.

A notable session discovered an AI-enabled Earth prediction system where diverse datasets, like satellite imagery, IoT sensors, geopolitical data, etc, are used to strengthen the predictive models. However, ensuring data quality, interoperability, and accessibility was identified as the main challenge.

Building Trust in AI Models

Another session in the conference highlighted that it is important to build trust in these models and their development process because AI and ML are becoming the core pillar of the earth prediction system. Experts raised the following questions during the conference as ML and AI become the basis for weather and environmental services:

  • How can AI tools be validated for reliability?
  • What frameworks ensure transparency between the public and private sectors?
  • How can global communities ensure fair and inclusive access to AI-powered forecasting?

These discussions highlight the growing role of the UAE as a hub for climate innovation and technological development. By hosting this global platform, Abu Dhabi empowers its dedication to sustainability, resilience, and future-ready weather services that cutting-edge AI tools are powering. So, people across the world should be ready to explore the new era of weather forecasting.
