BCCI Releases Updated IPL 2025 Schedule: Tournament to Resume on May 17 After Temporary Suspension

By UAE Centre | May 12, 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially released the revised schedule for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, following a temporary suspension earlier this month. The tournament will resume on May 17 and conclude on June 3, just a week before the World Test Championship final.

IPL 2025 Resumes After Suspension

The IPL 2025 season was halted on May 9 due to escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. With the situation now stabilized, the BCCI has acted swiftly to reorganize the remainder of the league.

In an official statement issued Monday night, the BCCI confirmed that the remaining 17 matches will be hosted across six major Indian cities — Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

We salute the bravery of our armed forces—thanks to them, cricket returns safely. The BCCI remains committed to the nation while ensuring the league’s smooth finish,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.

Match Breakdown and Key Fixtures

Out of the 17 games, there will be 13 league matches followed by four crucial playoff fixtures. To accommodate the condensed timeline, two double-header Sundays have been introduced.

The revised IPL timeline will now overlap with the England vs West Indies ODI series, scheduled from May 29 to June 3 in the UK. This has triggered potential scheduling conflicts for several key West Indian players, including:

  • The first double-header will take place on May 18. The afternoon game (3:30 PM IST) will see Rajasthan Royals (RR) clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS), followed by an evening showdown between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
  • The second double-header, scheduled for May 25, features Gujarat Titans (GT) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad in the afternoon, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Delhi that evening.

International Calendar Conflict

  • Romario Shepherd (RCB)
  • Shamar Joseph (LSG)
  • Sherfane Rutherford (GT)

All three have been named in the West Indies ODI squad and may be forced to leave the IPL mid-way if their franchises reach the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the England squad for the ODI series is yet to be announced, but several English players could also be affected, depending on IPL playoff qualifications. Likely impacted names include:

  • Jos Buttler (GT)
  • Phil Salt (RCB)
  • Jacob Bethell (RCB)
  • Liam Livingstone (RCB)
  • Will Jacks (MI)
  • Reece Topley (MI)

Tight Turnaround Before WTC Final

Another significant consequence of the adjusted schedule is the reduced gap between the IPL final and the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, set to begin on June 11 at Lord’s, where Australia will face South Africa. The tight seven-day window may raise concerns around player workload and recovery, particularly for those participating in both events.

The BCCI’s prompt rescheduling ensures the completion of the IPL 2025 season, but it introduces new challenges, especially for international stars balancing national duties. All eyes will now be on the final weeks of the tournament as franchises battle for playoff spots in this compressed and high-stakes finish.
