Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Becomes First in Middle East to Pilot Johnson & Johnson’s Polyphonic Surgical Ecosystem

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (part of the M42 network) has signed an exclusive agreement with Johnson & Johnson MedTech to the Polyphonic Surgical Ecosystem. Notably, it is the cutting-edge digital ecosystem created to transform surgical performance, partnership, and training. So, it makes the hospital the first in the whole Middle East to implement the innovative platform. Hence, it supports its position as a regional leader in advanced healthcare.

A New Era of Connected Surgery

Polyphonic, developed by Johnson & Johnson MedTech, integrates the surgical case planning, telepresence, and secure recording of surgical video. Moreover, the platform allows real-time collaboration, remote guidance, and detailed performance analysis. However, all these factors are aimed at boosting the patient results and surgical education.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is going to deploy the Polyphonic across three operating rooms over the upcoming year. Moreover, it will focus especially on the minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries.

Expert Insights on the Pilot

Dr Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi,  highlighted the importance of global collaboration in driving innovation by saying, “At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, we have regularly introduced new advanced technologies in the region. Piloting polyphonic allows our team to analyze performance, support collaboration, and create safe and more connected surgeries. “

On the other hand, Dr John Rodriguez, Chief of the Digestive Disease Institute, said, “This pilot is going to boost collaboration, coaching, and live case observation. Expanding access for residents in training is an important step towards a more data-driven surgical future”.

Polyphonic Surgical Ecosystem: Strengthening a Legacy of Innovation

This partnership adds to the growing list of the hospital of the pioneering campaigns, like the region’s first heavy ion therapy cancer treatment centre with Toshiba, and its collaboration with BioTwin to advance breast cancer screening through virtual human twin technology.

The pilot also marks the 10th anniversary of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which highlights its achievement in complex care. Moreover, the Digestive Disease Institute performed more than 345 bariatric surgeries and over 11,800 total surgical cases in 2024 alone. Hence, it showcases the expertise and demand of the hospital for advanced processes.

The hospital is also recognized as the top healthcare research hospital in the UAE by the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s National Center for Health Research. Moreover, the hospital closed 40 research studies in 2024 with industry and academic collaborations.
