Daryl Mitchell Climbs to Career-Best Third in ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings After Series Win Against England

New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell has achieved a new milestone in his cricketing career, as he rose to third place in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings after his outstanding performances in the home series against England. Moreover, the consistency of Mitchell was key in the Black Caps’ 3-0 series sweep, which further strengthens his reputation as one of the most reliable middle-order batters in modern cricket.

The 33-year-old right-hander delivered a series of crucial innings. This is because he scored 56 not out in the 2nd ODI in  Hamilton and 44 runs in the final ODI in Wellington. Moreover, his total in the series was 178 runs, which helped New Zealand to clinch the series. In addition, it also rewards him with the Player Of The Series award. 

His ability to perform under pressure due to his composed approach on the crease has helped him to climb two spots up in the latest ICC rankings. However, his promotion to the third place is the highest ever in the ODI  ranking of his career. 

Rachin Ravindra Also Shines in Updated ICC Rankings

Fellow New Zealander Rachin Ravindra has also made impressive gains, as he reached a career-best-equalling 14th position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. Moreover, his consistent performance of 44 runs and 56 runs in the last two matches against England has highlighted the growing batting depth of New Zealand. 

The rise of Rachin in the ranking highlights his growing influence in the ODI format and further empowers the batting lineup of New Zealand before the upcoming international fixtures. 

Other Major Movers in ICC ODI Rankings

India’s Rohit Sharma continues to lead the ranking. Similarly, Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran retains the second spot, closely followed by Daryl Mitchell at number three. However, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock returned to the top 20, as he rose to 19th position after scoring 63 against Pakistan in Faisalabad in other notable movement. 

On the other hand, Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman has improved to 26th. However, Salman Agha achieved a career-best 30th spot following his Player of the Match performance of 62 off 71 balls.

 England’s Jofra Archer moved up to a career-best joint third position after a three-wicket haul in Hamilton in the bowling rankings. However, Pakistan’s Naseem Shah also climbed 10 places to joint 33rd, and New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy surged 25 places to 39th, marking his best-ever ranking.

Meanwhile, Saurabh Netravalkar from the USA continued his steady rise, securing the 17th position. Hence, it reflects the growing competitiveness in the Cricket world among associate countries. 

T20I Rankings: Shai Hope and Others Make Big Strides

West Indies batter Shai Hope has achieved a career-best 12th position after scoring 46 not out and 55 in consecutive matches against Bangladesh in the T20I rankings. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz (15th) and Ibrahim Zadran (20th) also gained valuable points after strong performances in Zimbabwe. 

Pakistani players also made a significant strike, as Babar Azam and Saim Ayub both climbed 10 places each to 35th and 39th, respectively. Moreover, Shaheen Shah Afridi climbed advanced to 13th position in the bowling rankings. However, Jason Holder and Sikandar Raza also made significant jumps. Hence, it highlights the global depth of T20 talent.
