Dubai Municipality has announced that 90 percent of the beaches and 80 percent of the public parks in the city are now fully accessible to people of determination. However, this initiative highlights the ongoing mission of Dubai to create a barrier-free city where every resident and visitor can live, move, and explore with confidence.
The announcement comes before the 7th edition of AccessAbilities Expo, which is set to take place from the 6th of October to the 8th of October 2025. During this event, Dubai Municipality is going to showcase a wide range of inclusive facilities created to meet the highest international accessibility standards.
Inclusive Urban Design and Smart Facilities for People of Determination
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said, “The well-being of the people of Determination is at the forefront of our priorities. We are going to continue to create inclusive facilities and smart services that boost their quality of life within the framework of equality and equal opportunity/”
Wheelchair-friendly pathways, Braille signage, adapted play equipment, accessible restrooms, and quiet rooms for autistic visitors are a few examples of these upgrades. Moreover, staff across the main parks are also trained in sign language to ensure inclusive coordination.
Similarly, new facilities managed for People of determination and senior citizens are available at the Jumeirah Night Beach 2. On the other hand, the Al Mamzar Beach Park has also introduced the emergency evacuation system created for accessibility, featuring visual alerts, wide-range speakers, and guidance devices.
Iconic Landmarks and Smart Mapping
Besides facilities, the Dubai Frame now also offers voice-enabled assistance, tactile Braille maps, accessible parking, and holds a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest tactile Braille handrail. Moreover, the future enhancements will include sensory rooms and adaptive play areas.
On top of this, Dubai also introduced an interactive accessibility through the “Makani” project. Moreover, this system highlights barrier-free routes, accessible bus stops, and dedicated parking across the city.
Building a Global Model of Accessibility
The Accessible Recycling Centre and the Access Ambassadors programme are examples of complementary projects. Moreover, such campaigns further advance the inclusive vision of Dubai by promoting sustainable practices and universal design standards.
In addition, they are helping Dubai to position itself as a global leader in accessibility and tourism, where accessibility is more than a policy because the emirate is considering it as a lived reality.
