Now, families in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have new hope in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease due to the pioneering diagnostic service launched by the Dubai Health Authority. Moreover, the emirate revealed the first amyloid PET-CT imaging for Alzheimer Early Detection on World Alzheimer’s Day. However, the service could detect this disease years before the symptoms.
What Makes Amyloid PET-CT a Game Changer?
The technology identifies abnormal amyloid protein deposits in the brain, which are a major indicator of Alzheimer. Hence, doctors can differentiate this disease from other forms of dementia, rule it out in a complex case, and design personalized treatment plans to slow disease progression.
Now, this advanced imaging service is available at the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Centre at Dubai Hospital. Thus, it is making the Emirate a leader in neurological care in the region. However, adults who are experiencing memory problems or mild cognitive impairment are the primary beneficiaries of this new service.
Expert Insights from Dubai Health on the Alzheimer Early Detection Service
Dr. Usama Mohammad AlBastaki, Chair of Medical Imaging at Dubai Health, highlighted the impact of the milestone. Moreover, he said, “The introduction of the amyloid PET-CT is a significant step in diagnosing the neurological disorders at the facilities of Dubai. It shows our dedication to giving advanced diagnostic tools that allow earlier intervention with better patient outcomes.”
Dr. Batool Albalooshi, Consultant and Head of Nuclear Medicine, added, “The acceptance of the amyloid PET-CT gives patients a clear understanding of their conditions. It opens up chances to benefit from new treatments that target the amyloid protein deposit. Hence, it helps slow memory decline in the early stage.”
Moreover, both experts highlighted that this campaign is aligned with the “Patient First” promise of the Dubai Health. Hence, it advances precision medicine and supports physicians with data-driven clinical decisions.
Strengthening the UAE’s Position in Neurological Care
This goal comes after another milestone earlier this year when Abu Dhabi launched the first Alzheimer’s early detection centre in the UAE. Moreover, the centre introduced, in partnership with Neurocode International, blood-based screening for people aged 40 and above.
Together, these developments position the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the regional hub for Alzheimer’s detection and research. Therefore, it enhances the readiness of the healthcare system to address neurological disease. Moreover, it improves the quality of life for patients.
