The DXB is a masterclass in international connectivity, passenger services, and operational services. Moreover, the airport has witnessed a 6.1 percent year-on-year increase in 2024 from 2023.

In addition, it shows a strategic commitment to capacity growth and traveler experience. Moreover, the number of passengers at this airport in 2024 has surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 7 percent, demonstrating strong adaptability in a recovering aviation industry.

As per the ACI’s finalized data, the Dubai International Airport ranked strong position ahead of  London Heathrow (79.19 million) and South Korea’s Incheon Airport (70.67 million). Both of these airports are part of the top 3 busiest international airports.

 What Do Global Rankings Reveal?

The comprehensive report of the ACI has provided an insight into global aviation trends based on global passenger traffic, air cargo volumes, and aircraft movements. It highlights footfalls and the strategic roles that these airports play in the aviation industry. Here are the top 5 busiest airports in 2024:

  1. Dubai (DXB): 92,331,506 passengers
  2. London Heathrow (LHR): 79,194,330 passengers
  3. Incheon, Korea (ICN): 70,669,246 passengers
  4. Singapore Changi (SIN): 67,063,000 passengers
  5. Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS): 66,825,240 passengers

The Dubai International Airport also ranks in the second position after combining domestic and international flights. However, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) is ahead of DXB in this case, which logged over 108 million passengers in 2024.

Shocking data by the ACI

The ACI has confirmed that global air travel is surging after the pandemic. The number of traffic on the airport reached 9.4 billion in 2024, with an increase of 8.4 percent from 2023. In addition, the passenger traffic is 2.5 percent higher than pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Those top 20 airports hold 16 percent of all passengers that year, totaling 1.54 billion. In addition, six US airports made the top 20 list based on domestic passenger numbers.

ACI World director general Justin Erbacci said, “These data demonstrate the scale of the global aviation industry and the strength of that sector that continues to rise despite the complexities”.

Cargo and Aircraft Movement: DXB Also Climbs in Logistics

Dubai International Airport Busiest 2024

The Dubai International Airport is not only the leading in terms of passengers. However, the airport has achieved a big leap in air cargo because it has jumped to 11th position from the 17th position due to the boost in e-commerce, jet fuel price drops, and maritime disruptions pushing demand toward air freight.

In 2024, global cargo volume reaches 127 million metric tonnes, alongside aircraft activity. Touches 100.6 million. The data show year-on-year improvement of 3.9 percent. Therefore, the DXB remains central in the evolution of air mobility.
