Dubai Launches Green Initiative to Convert Used Cooking Oil Into Biodiesel

Dubai Municipality has taken a major step towards environmental sustainability by partnering with the BiOD Technology FZCO (a subsidiary of DUBAL Holding). The partnership has introduced a green initiative to convert used oil or cooking oil (UCO), fats, oils, and grease (FOG) into the B100 Biodiesel (a renewable fuel). 

Notably, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of top officials, such as 

Fahad Al-Awadhi, Director of Sewerage and Recycled Water Projects Department at Dubai Municipality; Yousef Bastaki, Board Member of BiOD Technology; and Shiva Vig, CEO of BiOD Technology, from both entities.

Public-Private Collaboration to Boost Dubai’s Vision 2030 Goals

Adel Al Marzooqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, stated that the project directly supports the Dubai Vision 2030 by converting waste into valuable energy. In addition, it decreases infrastructure damage and environmental risks. Moreover, the campaign also advances the emirate to long-term environmental and sustainable goals. 

BiOD Technology Brings Cutting-Edge Biodiesel Expertise

BiOD technology will collect and convert the UCO and FOG into a clean biodiesel using the advanced technology. CEO Shiva Vig of BiOS highlighted that this partnership allows scalable innovation in sustainable waste management and supports the wider circular economy efforts in the emirate. 

Restaurants to Play a Key Role in Greener Waste Management

Commercial kitchens and restaurants are significant contributors of waste oil. Thus, these sources are going to be important in the collection process. Moreover, this initiative will help decrease the environmental impact of improper oil disposal, which is often linked to clogged drains and wastewater treatment inefficiency. 

Circular Economy and Green Goals Drive Dubai’s Sustainability Agenda in green initiative to convert used oils

This campaign will benefit the public infrastructure and contribute to the green economy strategy of the UAE by promoting renewable fuel usage and efficient resource recycling. Moreover, the MoU shows a growing commitment to public-private collaboration that high-impact and environment-friendly solutions.
