The public transport network of Dubai is set for a major upgrade after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) officially released the Dubai Metro Blue Line map on December 14. The announcement is a big milestone in the long-term mobility vision of the emirate. However, the new line is expected to transform daily commuting and connectivity across key residential, commercial, and educational hubs.
This metro line is scheduled to open in 2029 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro. In addition, the Blue Line will play an important role in easing congestion and improving access across the city.
Dubai Metro Blue Line Overview

According to the RTA, the Dubai Metro Blue Line will span a total length of 30 kilometres. Moreover, it will have 14.5 km of elevated track and 15.5 km underground. Once operational, the line is expected to handle more than 320,000 passengers daily. However, some estimates place capacity at over 350,000 commuters per day.
The RTA said in a statement, “The project is expected to enhance the integration of the Dubai Metro’s network, which will elevate the quality of life and improve the daily mobility across the city.”
Dubai Metro Blue Line Map – Route

The newly released Dubai Metro Blue Line map shows that the line will operate on two distinct routes. However, it seamlessly connects the existing Red and Green Lines. Below are the details related to those routes:
Route 1 (21 km – 10 stations):
This route usually starts from Creek Station on the green line in Al Jaddaf. Moreover, it passes through the following destinations:
- Dubai Festival City
- Dubai Creek Harbour
- Ras Al Khor
- International City 1 (underground interchange)
- International City 2 and 3
- Dubai Silicon Oasis
- Academic City
Route 2 (9 km – 4 stations):
The second route begins at Centrepoint Station on the Red Line. However, it will move through the following destinations:
- Mirdif
- Al Warqa
- Ending at International City 1 Interchange Station
Together, these routes will significantly improve travel between northeast Dubai and the wider metro network. Moreover, you can see the detailed map below:
Stations and Key Infrastructure Highlights

The Blue Line is going to feature 14 stations, including 5 elevated stations, 4 underground stations, 1 underground interchange station, and 4 future elevated stations. Moreover, the route is the 1300-metre bridge over Dubai Creek, which is a standout engineering feature. In addition, it marks the first-ever metro crossing over the creek.
The line also includes three interchange stations. Below is the list of those stations:
- Al Khor (Green Line)
- Centrepoint (Red Line)
- International City 1 (new interchange hub)
Iconic Station Design
The design of the first station, named Emaar Metro Station, is one of the most talked-about elements. Moreover, the station will stand 74 meters tall. So, it will be the highest metro station in the world. However, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed this metro station, which is the firm behind the Burj Khalifa.
The elevated stations draw inspiration from the seashell shape. However, the interior shows seven thematic models, including Heritage, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Hence, it will be modern architecture with cultural storytelling.
Impact on Communities and Daily Life
The progress of the construction is underway. As of November 2025, 10 per cent of the work has been completed within 5 months. However, road diversions have been announced in many areas to signal active development.
The impact on communities is already visible. Moreover, areas near the Blue Line corridor have seen rising rental demand. According to the DXB Properties, an average of a 23 per cent rental spike has been witnessed in around 9 linked communities since the initiation of the Blue Line metro.
The RTA estimates the line will reduce traffic congestion by up to 20% on served routes. By 2029, around 50,000 university students from Academic City are expected to depend on the Blue Line daily.
