Dubai Police to Expand Dubai Noise Radar System Across Emirate to Curb Vehicle Disturbances

Dubai Police has announced the expansion of the Dubai noise radar system across the emirate. Moreover, it is a big step toward boosting community wellbeing and maintaining the global reputation of the city as a peaceful and modern city. However, the move aims to restrict disruptive sound levels from vehicles and motorcycles and promote a safer, quieter environment for residents and visitors.

Commitment to Public Peace and Modern Urban Living

The campaign forms part of the ongoing mission of Dubai to boost the quality of life for its people. According to the Authorities, the decision to increase the number of noise-detecting radars aligns with the strategic vision of the emirate to remain one of the most civilised, orderly, and peaceful cities in the world.

Moreover, Dubai Police confirmed that installations are going to be slowly rolled out across many areas. Hence, it ensures comprehensive coverage and consistent monitoring around the clock.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, explained that the noise radar systems are fully connected into the advanced smart traffic system of the force.

He said, “These devices accurately measure noise levels, detect offending vehicles, and document violations through the real-time video when predefined noise limits are exceeded”. Besides monitoring the engine and exhaust voice, it can track the following violations:

  • Unnecessary horn use
  • Excessively loud in-car audio systems
  • Vehicles with illegal or high-noise modifications
  • Sound disturbances from recording devices

These radars are going to help identify vehicles that violate noise regulations to support law enforcement by taking instant action.

Strict Penalties to Maintain Public Comfort

Dubai Police has repeated that noise pollution is not only a nuisance, but it is also a public health and safety concern. Hence, violators are opposed to the following penalties under the UAE traffic law:

  • Offenders may be fined up to Dh2,000
  • 12 black points can be added to the driver’s licence
  • Vehicles may be impounded
  • Release fees for impounded vehicles can reach up to Dh10,000

The authorities highlighted that these penalties target disruptive behaviour, particularly in residential neighbourhoods where excessive vehicle noise affects families, students, elderly residents, and shift workers.

Focus on Awareness Over Punishment

Despite the strict penalties, Major General Al Mazrouei highlighted that the purpose of this system is not to issue only fines. Instead, it aims to encourage responsible behaviour on the roads of Dubai. He highlighted the societal importance of calmness and self-discipline. Hence, he noted that community well-being depends on collective responsibility.

Dubai Police is going to conduct detailed awareness campaigns. Hence, they will educate the public on the effects of noise pollution, its impact on health, and the importance of maintaining a civilised approach to driving.

Aligned With Dubai’s Civilised Appearance Committee

The noise radar expansion is a part of a larger campaign led by the Steering Committee for Preserving the Civilised Appearance of Dubai. Moreover, the committee oversee efforts to uphold the standards of cleanliness, safety, and urban beauty of Dubai. In addition, the expansion of the Dubai Noise Radar System also supports the following long-term vision of Dubai:

  • Maintaining community peace
  • Enhancing overall road safety
  • Strengthening respect for public spaces
  • Setting a global example in smart city governance
