Dubai police have released a public warning related to the new online fraud involving  Fake Consumer Protection Platforms Scam. As per the Anti-Fraud Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation,  cybercriminals are impersonating the official portal of the customer protection platform to trick victims into sharing personal details like phone numbers and downloading malicious applications.

How  Fake Consumer Protection Platforms Scam Works

Officials explained that victims who are searching for customer protection platforms online may unintentionally land on the fake portals. However, they provide personal details, like names, emails, and phone numbers, while believing they are lodging a complaint.

After that, fraudsters call the victim, posing as an official employee, and repeat the details to appear credible. Once trust is built, the scammers ask the victim to download the remote access software, which allows them to view phone screens, steal sensitive banking details, and execute unauthorized financial transactions.

These malicious apps mirror the device content. Hence, it gives scammers full control to expose and steal confidential information like banking details.

Public Safety Advisory

Dubai police requested the residents to use only the official customer protection channels and avoid downloading unknown applications and software. Moreover, they also urged people to report any suspected fraud via the eCrime platform or by calling 901.

A Dubai Police spokesperson emphasized, “We call on the public to stay alert, avoid suspicious websites, and protect their financial data from being misused.”

Rise in Creative Scams

Ahmad Ahli, Acting Director of the Consumer Protection Department at Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, said the scammers are turning to more creative methods.

He further said, “Customers must know their rights, read carefully when shopping online, and ensure they are dealing with the reputable businesses. Only use the trusted payment links and remember that no legitimate entity is going to ever ask for the OTPs”.

He also added that many new customer protection rules have been implemented in Dubai to support fair trade practices, promote clarity, and protect the rights of the residents.

Key Takeaways for UAE Residents

  • Always verify official government websites before entering details.
  • Never download remote access software from unknown sources.
  • Report fraud attempts via eCrime or by calling 901.
  • Use only approved payment methods and avoid sharing OTPs.

Dubai authorities are continuously reminding residents that awareness is the strongest defense against cyber fraud.
