Dubai RTA’s 119th Number Plate Auction Generates Dh97.95 Million; BB 88 Sells for Dh14 Million

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has once again attracted the attention of collectors and motorists through its latest 119th Number Plate Auction held at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Hotel. Moreover, it has generated an impressive Dh97.95 million in revenue. Hence, it empowers the growing cultural and symbolic appeal of the unique plates in the  United Arab Emirates (UAE). 

BB 88 Sets Auction Record

Undoubtedly, the exclusive plate (BB 88) was the star of the auction, which sold for a staggering Dh 14 million. Hence, it makes it the highest bid of the auction. The following is the list of the other premium sales in the auction:

  •  (Y 31) at Dh6.27 million
  • (M 78) at Dh6 million
  • (BB 777) at Dh6 million

These super plates were the subject of fierce competition. Therefore, it highlights how prestige and individuality drive demand in the luxury car culture of Dubai.

 

Wide Selection of Exclusive Plates

The auction featured 90 coveted plates spanning codes A, BB, K, L, M, N, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z. Moreover, it ranges from two to five digits. However, the rare BB 88 and BB 777 drew attention particularly among them. Hence, it sparked debate among lovers and investors. 

Participation Requirements for the 119th Number Plate Auction

Bidders needed the Dubai Traffic File and were required to submit a Dh25,000 security cheque payable to RTA with a non-refundable fee of Dh120. Moreover, payment could also be made through the RTA  website for added convenience. Hence, it ensures a seamless participation process. 

RTA’s Transparent and Competitive Approach

The RTA highlighted that the success of the 119th Number Plate Auction showcases its transparency and competitive framework, which offer equal opportunity to participate. Moreover, unique number plates in Dubai are more than just identification, as they show status, prestige, and personal identity. Hence, it is regarded as a valuable investment by collectors. 

Final words

The results of the most recent auction showcase the attraction towards the rare number plates in the UAE. However, the sales almost touch Dh 100 million, and BB 88 set a new benchmark at Dh 14 million. Hence, the auction in Dubai continues to be a unique blend of culture, luxury, and competition. In short, this auction was a successful step for the RTA.
