Dubai’s HBMSU Launches Region’s First AI-Powered Academic Agent to Transform Higher Education

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has announced the launch of the first AI-powered academic agent. So, it is a groundbreaking innovation that is set to redesign higher education across the UAE.

Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, revealed the initiative ‘Artificial Intelligence Agent for Every Faculty’ during the press briefing in Dubai. It is developed completely in the Emirates by the HBMSU team led by Maitha Al Tunaiji, Vice Chancellor for AI and Technology. Moreover, the platform is created to meet the global standards and matches the UAE National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and Education Strategy 2033.

How the AI-powered Academic Agent Works?

It is created to streamline the academic process. Moreover, the platform could save up to 75 percent of faculty time while boosting student achievements by 40 percent. However, we have mentioned the top features of this tool below:

  • Content Creation: Converts syllabi into weekly plans in minutes and generates instructional videos.
  • Assessment: Builds exams, projects, rubrics and manages moderation.
  • Learning Analytics: Provides real-time student feedback, highlights learning gaps, and generates detailed reports for faculty.

Therefore, HBMSU has reduced the content creation time by 85 percent and erased faculty workload by 95 percent. Moreover, it has significantly improved the student mastery.

Benefits for Faculty and Students

The AI agent can be a personalized academic guide for students. Hence, it will offer tailored resources, project support, and adaptive feedback. Thus, this has been shown to improve overall achievement by up to 40 percent.

On the other hand, the tool removes repetitive administrative work for faculty. So, it allows professors to focus on mentorship, innovation, and critical thinking. Hence,  Dr. Al Awar said that the AI tool is not a replacement for teachers. However, it is a way to support educators in smart learning.

Dubai’s Vision for AI in Education

The campaign is a part of the vision of the Crown Prince of Dubai and President of HBMSU, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In addition, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, supported this initiative.

Dr. Al Awar said, “This initiative is a game changer in education, creating a paradigm change in how academic work is managed”.  Moreover, the HBMSU will begin mandatory training for faculty on AI integration next week. So, it ensures ethical use via privacy protection, clarity, and accessibility compliance.
