Emirates Airlines Bans Use of Power Banks Onboard Flights from October 1, 2025

Emirates Airlines has announced that the use of power banks will be prohibited on all its flights from tomorrow, i.e, the 1st of October 2025. However, the rule applies across the entire fleet of the airline as part of the updated safety measures to reduce risks connected to lithium battery-powered devices.

The airline confirmed that passengers are still allowed to carry only one power bank under strict conditions. However, they will not be allowed to use it to charge devices during the flight. Moreover, charging power banks using the power outlets of the aircraft will also be banned.

What the New Rules Mean for Passengers

According to the Emirates, the updated safety regulations include the following guidelines:

  • Only one power bank under 100 Watt Hours (Wh) is permitted per passenger.
  • Power banks cannot be used in-flight to charge personal devices.
  • Power banks cannot be recharged using the aircraft’s power supply.
  • Each device must be clearly labeled with its capacity rating.
  • Power banks must be stored under the seat or in the seat pocket—not in overhead bins.
  • Power banks are strictly prohibited in checked baggage.

Besides these guidelines, Emirates highlighted that all its aircraft are already equipped with in-seat charging for passengers. However, passengers like you are encouraged to fully charge devices before boarding, especially on long-haul flights.

Why Emirates Airlines Banned Power Banks in Flight?

The decisions come after the detailed review amid rising incidents involving lithium batteries across the aviation industry. Notably, power banks often come with lithium-ion or lithium-polymer cells, which can become hazardous if damaged, poorly manufactured, or overcharged.

Lithium battery failure could lead to thermal runaway in extreme cases. Hence, it could cause overheating, smoke, or even fires. Hence, Emirates ensures that cabin crew can respond immediately in such cases that occur by banning their use inflight and requiring have accessible storage.

Emirates Reinforces Safety Commitment

In an official statement, the airline said, “Safety is the foundation of everything we do. These steps are created to protect our passengers, crew, and aircraft.” Moreover, it has highlighted that this move is a proactive step to boost passenger safety and maintain comfort due to the built-in charging options at every seat.

Key Takeaway for Passengers in the UAE: Power banks can be carried, but not used in-flight on Emirates flights. Moreover, travelers should charge devices in advance and rely on the airline’s in-seat charging facilities.
