Emirates Health Services Issues New UAE School Health Guide to Protect Students

Emirates Health Services (EHS) has introduced the new UAE school health guide. which is created to save students from common illnesses and empower the health system across schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Moreover, the campaign highlights the importance of preventive care, early intervention, and medical readiness to protect the well-being of students.

Preventive Measures for Students in the UAE School Health Guide

The guide highlights six important precautions for students to reduce the spread of disease. Below is the list of those precautions:

  1. Frequent handwashing with soap and water, especially before meals and after restroom use.
  2. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
  3. Covering coughs and sneezes with tissues or elbows.
  4. Avoiding close contact with sick classmates.
  5. Staying home when feeling unwell.
  6. Regularly cleaning frequently touched surfaces.

These suggestions are focused on reducing the infection within the classrooms and maintaining healthier learning environments.

Managing Common Health Conditions

The EHS guide also addresses three chronic health concerns that are prevalent in schools. Below are the conditions mentioned:

  • Asthma: Students must keep medication and treatment plans updated.
  • Severe Allergies: Carrying an epinephrine auto-injector is advised. Moreover, staff should be trained to use it during emergencies.
  • Type 1 Diabetes: Need close monitoring, emergency plans, and medical ID such as bracelets.

Focus on Heat-Related Illnesses

The guide also highlights the danger of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke during outdoor activities due to the hot weather in the UAE. Hence, staff and teachers are requested to look for the warning signs and seek immediate medical attention whenever needed.

Strengthening School Health Systems

Currently, the EHS oversees 312 government schools, 333 school clinics, and nursing staff at seven new Zayed Educational Complexes. Moreover, the  authority provides the following services:

  • Annual health screenings.
  • Vaccinations under the national programme.
  • Oral and mental health check-ups.
  • Awareness sessions and emergency response support.

The EHS also revealed that the Emiratisation in the government nursing staff has reached 12.5% this year. Therefore, it is in line with the workforce goals of the UAE.

UAE School Health Guide: Commitment to Student Well-Being

The new school health guides show the broader strategy of the EHS and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of combining preventive care with the responsive medical support for the school students. Therefore, this initiative ensures that UAE students can grow in a safe and healthy environment.
