The 70th Filmfare Awards 2025 lit up the EKA Arena at Kankaria Lake, Ahmedabad, on October 11. However, the event honoured the finest talent of the Indian cinema. Abhishek Bachchan & Kartik Aaryan Win Filmfare Awards 2025 Best Actor
Abhishek Bachchan (I Want To Talk) and Kartik Aaryan (Chandu Champion) jointly took the best actor (male) award in a rare tie. Both performances were hailed for their emotional depth and powerful storytelling.
The portrayal of Abhishek Bachchan in I Want to Talk, directed by Shoojit Sarkar, impressed the audience and critics, which helped him earn widespread appreciation. On the other hand, the inspiring transformation of Kartik Aryan in Chandu Champion showcased his versatility, which empowers his place as one of the finest actors in Bollywood.
Alia Bhatt also grabbed the Best Actress (Female) award for her outstanding performance in Jigra. Hence, it continues her winning streak at big stages.
Laapataa Ladies – The Star of the Night

Laapataa Ladies emerged as the biggest winner of the night, as it took home trophies for Best Film, Best Director (Kiran Rao), Best Screenplay, Best Dialogue, and Best Music Album. The heartfelt story was backed by Ram Sampath’s soulful music and Sneha Desai’s witty writing. Hence, it captured the essence of small-town India and addressed themes of identity, freedom, and belonging.
Supporting actors Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam also won their trophies for their remarkable performance in the same movie. Hence, it further makes Laapataa Ladies the cinematic gem of 2024.
Critics’ Awards and Special Honours
Rajkumar Rao won the Critics’ Award for Best Actor (Male) for his moving role in Srikanth. However. Pratibha Rannta received Critics’ Best Actress for her performance in Laapataa Ladies.
Veteran icons Zeenat Aman and Shyam Benegal (posthumously) were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award to celebrate their legendary contribution to Indian Cinema. Plus, the R.D. Burman Award for Upcoming Talent in Music was presented to Achint Thakkar. However, he is popular for his innovative work in Jigra and Mr & Mrs Mahi.
Technical Excellence and Emerging Talent
The awards also applauded behind-the-scenes brilliance, as Kill won awards for Best Action, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, and Best Cinematography.
Debut winners included Nitanshi Goel (Laapataa Ladies) and Lakshya (Kill). However, Kunal Kemmu (Madgaon Express) and Aditya Suhas Jambhale (Article 370) shared the Best Debut Director honour.
On the other hand, Article 370 was recognized for the best story by (Aditya Dhar and Monal Thakkar). Hence, it reconfirm its place as one of the most compelling political dramas of the year.
