How to Get a UAE Work Visa: Step-by-Step Process

The UAE is one of the top nations for expats who are looking for job opportunities and a better quality of life. It attracts talented individuals around the world due to its strategic location, business-friendly environment, and tax-free wages. However, you must obtain the UAE work visa if you intend to work in this nation.

Many types of UAE work visas are there that allow different people to pursue their dream job here. However, you need to figure out which type of work visa would be appropriate for your needs.

In this post, we will talk about those types of visas. Moreover, we will share with you the eligibility criteria to get this visa. Plus, we will give you a step-by-step guide that will help you get this visa.

Types of UAE Work Visa

There are three types of Visit Visa in the UAE. As we told you before, you need to select the right visa as per your needs. So, see the top types of visa here:

Standard Work Visa

It is an employee-sponsored visa that allows you to live and work as an employee or worker in the UAE. With this visa, you can work or live here for two to three years. However, you can renew or cancel the visa.

Remember, you must accept a job offer in writing and get the work permit before arriving in this nation on a UAE standard work visa. The permit will allow you to enter the country and proceed to the visa application.

Green Visa

The UAE introduced the green visa in 2022 to attract foreign freelancers and self-employed people. With this visa, you can live here for about 5 years without any sponsorship from an employer. Moreover, it allows you to sponsor your family members or relatives.

The green visa also gives you extra benefits, like a six-month grace period upon expiry or cancellation. However, you need an employment contract or a self-employed permit to get this visa.

Golden visa

It is an extended version of a residence permit that allows you to live, work, and study for 10 years in the UAE without a local sponsor. It is appropriate for inventors, doctors, scientists, etc, with the appropriate qualifications.

Who is Eligible for a UAE Work Visa?

Anyone aged above 18 years is eligible for the UAE Work Visa. Remember, there is no maximum age for obtaining this visa. However, people who are more than 65 years old are required to get a high salary from the company to get this visa.

Steps to get the UAE Work Visa

If you are eligible for this visa, you must follow some steps to get it. Remember, it is mandatory to follow these steps appropriately. So, see the right path to get the UAE Work Visa:

  1. Your employer must initiate the process by applying for an employment visa quota approval from the Ministry of Labour (MOL).
  2. You and your employer must sign the standardized employment contract featuring salary, benefits, etc. It must be submitted to MOL for approval within 14 days.
  3. After approval, your employer must apply for the employee’s permit and entry visa by uploading supporting documents on the MOL website. Remember, you can easily check your visa status.
  4. After approval, you will get an entry visa in your email. Now, you are allowed to enter this nation within 60 days for further procedure.
  5. After arrival, you must go through the medical test for fitness. It checks for infectious disease, and the Emirate ID application registers the residential details.
  6. After clearing the test, your employer will begin the residence visa or Work Visa process by paying fees and submitting the supporting papers.
  7. Now, you must give the signed labor contract to the MOHRE within 14 days post the medical test.
  8. Here, you will get health coverage or insurance from your employer.
  9. After ICA approves the application, your employer will obtain your residence visa.
  10. Now, you must apply for an Emirate ID after 15 days of reaching the country.

Previously, employees had to physically stamp their new residence visa on their passports. However, the new reform of 2021 has removed that requirement. Now, it is not needed to get your visa stamp on your passport.
