The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai have jointly announced the launch of a new online portal for all Indian passport-related services in a big step toward the digital transformation and faster services. Now, Indian expats in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can apply for the next-generation Indian ePassport with chip-embedded documents designed to ensure faster immigration and enhanced data security.
What Is the New Indian ePassport System?

The initiative is part of the upgraded Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0) introduced by the Government of India. Moreover, the new system has an e-passport embedded with a digital chip containing the biometric and personal data of the holder. In addition, this upgrade aims to simplify global travel by enabling smoother immigration clearance at international airports.
Applicants can access the new system via the official Passport Seva at the following portal:

The Indian Consulate in Dubai has also confirmed that this new system applies to expats residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Step-by-Step Application Process
Now, you must follow the online process for all passport services to streamline the process. The list of those processes is mentioned below:
- Register on the Portal
Initially, you should visit the official GPSP 2.0 website and click the “Register” link to create an account.
- Log In and Fill the Form
After registration, you should log in to your account and generate a new passport application from the Applicant Home Page.
- Print the Submitted Form
Once submitted online, you should download and print your completed application form.
- Book an Appointment:
After that, you should visit the BLS International appointment portal at
https://indiavisa.blsinternational.com/uae/appointment/bls_appmnt/login to schedule an appointment for in-person verification.
- Visit the BLS Centre
At last, you should attend your chosen BLS International Centre with all the required documents for final submission and biometric verification.
Reduced Waiting Time for Applicants
The option to upload ICAO-compliant photographs, signatures, and documents online, before visiting BLS centres, is one of the key improvements under the GPSP 2.0. According to the mission, applicants are motivated to upload their documents in the GPSP 2.0 portal significantly reduces waiting times at the BLS centre. Moreover, you can find the complete details in the ICAO photo guidelines PDF available on the official website.
Corrections Made Easier
Minor corrections are also one of the most common issues thatares resolved by the new system. Previously, applicants had to re-enter complete details for any correction. However, the BLS service providers can make corrections to already filled forms at their end without additional charges under GPSP 2.0. Hence, it ensures a smoother and faster experience.
New Photo Guidelines and Standards
Earlier this month, BLS international reminded indians expats to wear dark-colored attire when visiting centres for passport services. Moreover, the advisory align with the updated biometric standards of the ICAO, implemented from the 1st of September to ensure photo clarity and global compliance.
These guidelines are the part of the move of India to make its passport system internationally compatible with biometric benchmarks set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Key takeaways
The launch of GPSP 2.0 is a new era in passport modernization for Indian expats in the UAE. Moreover, the process is now faster, more secure, and globally known due to the introduction of chip-embedded e-passports, digital document uploads, and easier correction options. Plus, Indian residents are motivated to familiarize themselve with the new portal and apply through the updated system starting October 28, 2025, to enjoy these enhanced services.
