Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, was rocked by a deadly suicide explosion outside the district court complex on Tuesday afternoon. Hence, it left at least 12 people dead and 27 others injured, as per the official sources. However, the Islamabad court suicide blast took place near the Judicial Complex. So, the incident has sent shockwaves across the nation. Plus, the authorities promise swift action against those behind this act.
The Interior Minister of Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi, confirmed that the Islamabad court blast took place when the attacker, unable to enter the courthouse, detonated explosives close to a police vehicle after waiting for nearly 15 minutes.
Details of the Islamabad Attack

The explosion occurred around 12 pm local time during the peak working hours when the court area was full of lawyers, staff, and visitors. Moreover, witnesses described the scenes of chaos as flames engulfed several vehicles and smoke billowed from the blast site.
Rustam Malik, a lawyer present at the scene, said, “I heard the loud bang and saw two dead bodies lying at the gate while cars were on fire.” Footage circulating on social media and local channels shows charred vehicles and lawyers in black coats and white shirts sitting on the roadside, visibly shaken and bloodstained.
Later, officials confirmed that most of the victims were lawyers and court staff. However, it highlights the vulnerability of public spaces even in Pakistan’s heavily guarded capital.
Authorities Respond with Condemnation and Investigation
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured the public that a full investigation was underway. He highlighted that authorities would prioritise the bomber and track down any people or groups who are involved in the attack..
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the bombing. Moreover, he expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims. He said in the presidential office, “Those responsible for this act of terror will not escape justice.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called the attack a “wake-up call” for Pakistan. Moreover, he said that the nation is in a state of war against terrorism. In addition, he also hinted at possible cross-border influences. Therefore, he pointed out his finger to Afghanistan, which Pakistan has accused of harbouring members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Rising Security Concerns and Regional Tensions
The Islamabad blast is a big escalation in militant activities after many months of relative calm in the hospital. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility, but suspicion immediately fell on Pakistan’s Taliban faction (TTP), as it has recently intensified attacks across the northwest region.
Pakistani security forces reportedly thwarted an attempt by militants to take cadets hostage at a military college in the northwest province just a day earlier. However, this recent wave of violence highlights the ongoing struggle of the nation with resurgent extremist elements.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have also deteriorated sharply in recent months. Moreover, cross-border clashes erupted after the October 9 drone strike in Kabul that killed many people. Hence, it led to dozens of casualties on both sides before Qatar mediated the ceasefire on October 19.
Global and Local Reactions
Condemnations poured in from across Pakistan and the International community. Moreover, citizens have taken the social media to demand stronger security measures around juridical and government buildings. In addition, security has been tightened in Pakistani cities, like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, amid fears of further coordinated attacks.
On the other hand, international observers, including regional partners in the Middle East, have also expressed concerns over the growing instability of the nation. Moreover, they have warned that such attacks threaten the region’s peace and counterterrorism progress.
