Islamic New Year Holiday 2025: UAE Declares paid holiday for Private Sector employees

The government has announced that June 27 will be an official Islamic New Year holiday in the UAE for all private sector employees.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) of UAE has declared June 27, 2025 as a paid Islamic New Year holiday for all private sector employees. This marks the start of the new year 1 Muharram 1447 AH, which is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

This declaration follows the public holidays schedule of the UAE for private sector institutions. This holiday decision makes a 3-day weekend for the residents. UAE residents who already have Saturday and Sunday as their weekend days will return to work on Monday, June 30.

The Islamic New Year holiday marks the Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. Although it is not as widely celebrated as Eid it remains a time for Muslims to reflect and reconnect spiritually.
