Madharasi Review: Sivakarthikeyan Shines in AR Murugadoss’ Action Thriller, But Does It Deliver

Madharasi Review: The much-awaited action thriller of Tamil Cinema, Madharasi, directed by ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss, was released worldwide today, the 5th of September 2025. However, the film has already sparked mixed reactions from audiences in theaters and on social media due to Sivakarthikeyan in a gritty new avatar and Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead of the movie.

Storyline & Plot

Madharasi follows the journey of Raghu Ram (Sivakarthikeyan), who is an ordinary man caught in an extraordinary case. However, the twist comes when Virat (Vidyut Jammwal), who is a ruthless gun-smuggling syndicate, enters the movie. 

In addition, Raghu Ram gets into the mission when the NIA officer Premnath (Biju Menon). The movie tries to balance high-octane action with emotional drama. In addition, the film also gives a social message against the gun culture. 

Performances

Sivakarthikeyan’s transformation into a layered, intense character is the highlight of the Madharasi movie. However, his emotional depth and comic timing in tense moments and action scenes have been widely appreciated. 

On the other hand, Rukmini Vasanth delivers a convincing performance. Moreover, Biju Menon adds strength as the upright officer. However, Vidyut Jammwal comes across as a routine villain but fails to impress. 

Madharasi Review: Technical Aspects

• Direction: AR Murugadoss brings his trademark style but falls short of delivering the same magic as Ghajini or Thuppakki. The screenplay, particularly in the second half, feels predictable.
• Action: Choreographed by Dhilip Masters, the slick fight sequences stand out on the big screen.
• Music: Anirudh Ravichander’s soundtrack has disappointed some fans, with few memorable tracks.
• Cinematography: Sudeep Elamon captures action blocks impressively, though sharper editing was needed to avoid lag.

Verdict 

Madharaasi is a partially engaging action drama that works mainly only for Sivakarthikeyan’s stellar performance and stylish action. However, the weak second half and repetitive screenplay make it fall short of becoming a complete entertainer.
