The United Arab Emirates is strengthening its dedication to fair and balanced labor practices through Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on Labor Relations Regulation. Therefore, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has launched a new UAE awareness toolkit for employers.
It aims to help employers better know their legal responsibilities and the rights of workers. So, this campaign supports the vision of the UAE to boost a stable and transparent work environment while fostering productivity and business growth.
Key Features of the UAE Awareness Toolkit for Employees
It showcases the rules and obligations of both parties in an employment contract. So, it ensures that workers in the private sector receive the guaranteed benefits. Below is the highlight of this toolkit:
- Annual leave: 30 days per year (or two days per month for those employed between 6–12 months).
- Maternity leave: 60 days (45 days full pay + 15 days 50% pay).
- Sick leave: Up to 90 days (first 15 days full pay, next 30 days half pay, remaining unpaid).
- Parental leave: 5 working days within six months of childbirth.
- Bereavement leave: 5 days for the death of a spouse, 3 days for close relatives.
- Study leave: 10 working days per year for study (after 2 years of service).
- National service leave: Fully paid leave for UAE nationals.
In addition, you will be qualified for the full-pay official public holidays. However, if you work on these days, you will be eligible for extra salary.
End-of-Service Benefits and Wage Protection
Foreign workers are qualified for the end-of-service gratuity after one year of continuous service, calculated as:
- A basic wage of 21 days for each of the first five years.
- 30 days’ basic wage for every additional year.
The national pension and retirement system will govern these benefits for the UAE nationals. However, wages must be clearly mentioned in the contract (in dirhams) and paid on time under the Wage Protection System (WPS).
Why This Matters
MoHRE is protecting the rights of the workers by launching the Awareness Toolkit. Moreover, it will provide employees with clarity, reduce disputes, and support the long-term economic stability of the UAE.
So, this balanced approach empowers the relationship between employees and employers. In addition, it will ensure the country is an attractive global hub for talent and investment. In short, this toolkit is going to help employees and companies alike.
