Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi Opens: A Landmark in Science, Culture, and Innovation

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi has officially opened in the  Saadiyat Cultural District. Hence, it has marked a historic moment for the UAE cultural and scientific development. However, the museum is the largest institution of its kind in the Middle East.

The museum spans more than 35,000 square metres to present 13.8 billion years of natural history. Hence, it blends cutting-edge exhibits, scientific research, and immersive storytelling.

Leaders Tour the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi Ahead of Public Opening

After the grand opening ceremony, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, toured the museum.  However, their visit has underscored the UAE’s growing commitment to sustainability, scientific education, and global conservation efforts.

Sheikh Khaled highlighted that the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi stands as a symbol of the nation’s leadership in natural science. Therefore, it gives a knowledge-rich environment that motivates research, curiosity, and innovation. Moreover, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that the museum strengthens the commitment of the nation as a global hub for knowledge, creativity and evidence-based thinking.

Opening to the Public on November 22

The museum will officially open its doors to the public on 22nd November 2025. Hence, it will offer a transformative journey for visitors of all ages. In addition, it has become the newest addition to the  Saadiyat Cultural District’s world-class institutions. Moreover, it will now join Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

A Journey Through Earth’s 13.8 Billion-Year Timeline

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is created to take visitors on a chronological immersion through the story of Earth from the formation of the universe to the age of dinosaurs and the biodiversity of today. Here, you will find a permanent gallery, where you can explore the following innovations:

•  The Story of Earth – tracing cosmic origins
• The Evolving World – from ancient oceans to dominant dinosaurs
• Our World – showcasing modern ecosystems
• Resilient Planet – exploring survival and adaptation
• Earth’s Future – highlighting climate change and sustainability

Specialised scientific zones such as the PalaeoLab, Life Sciences Lab, Arabia’s Climate, Beyond the Horizon, and The Human Story offer deeper insights. Moreover, an advanced Interactive Theatre is set to provide you with immersive visual timelines of Earth’s evolution.

Inside the Iconic Exhibits: Dinosaurs, Megafauna & Regional Wonders

World’s First Sauropod Dinosaur Herd Display

Here, you can encounter a world-first exhibition featuring a herd of five massive sauropods—two diplodocids, one Brachiosaurus, one Kaatedocus, and one Barosaurus. However, they are arranged in a lifelike prehistoric formation. Plus, this unique setup allows visitors to walk among the toes of giants. 

The Star Attraction: Battling T. Rexes

The museum also features the first-ever display of Tyrannosaurus rex fossils locked in combat over a fallen Triceratops. Moreover, one of the most complete T. rex skeletons ever discovered at its centre stands “Stan”. 

A Blue Whale Like Never Before

The museum also has an 85-foot blue whale skeleton to offer an awe-inspiring encounter rarely seen in other museums in the world. However, it was discovered in Nova Scotia in 2021. In addition, it hovers just 10 feet above the ground. 

Focus on Arabian Natural Heritage

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi also puts a strong emphasis on the regional history. Here, you can explore the following attractions:

• A four-tusked Stegotetrabelodon elephant native to Abu Dhabi’s ancient savannah
• Exhibits detailing Arabia’s climate history
• Fossils reveal that the UAE landscapes were once lush and river-fed

A Cultural Moment: Celebrities Attend VIP Preview

Bollywood legends Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan joined a star-studded guest list during a preview event. Besides them,  Steve Harvey, Adam Savage, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Swizz Beatz, Ron Perlman, and Giancarlo Esposito also joined the grand event. Moreover, their presence highlighted the rising global recognition of the museum.
