Why Did the NBA Choose Abu Dhabi?
The NBA sees the Middle East as a critical growth market, as it has 15.6 million fans in the region according to the NY Times. However, it is more than any other American sports league. According to the reports, the sports industry in the region is expected to grow 8.7 per cent by 2026, which is far outpacing the global average. Why Is Basketball Growing in Abu Dhabi?
NBA UAE presence is not only about big venues or billionaire collaboration. Instead, it is also changing the grassroots scene. However, the league reports that basketball participation has grown 60 per cent in the Emirates and 54 per cent across the Middle East.
Now, youth programs in the emirate show equal participation from boys and girls. Surprisingly, it is something even Silver highlighted as a surprise to those outside the region.
