The Rajinikanth Coolie movie review has been one of the most-awaited write-ups of this year. However, the movie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, but it assembles an impressive cast, including Rajinikanth, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj. Notably, it was marketed as the next big pan-India content. But is it truly worth the hype? Let’s try to find out with our detailed analysis.
Rajinikanth Coolie Movie Review: Story
Rajasekhar (Sathyaraj) invented the mobile cremation system, but he died in a mysterious case. However, Rajasekhar left his daughter Preethi (Shruti Haasan) and her two sisters behind. The twist comes when his friend Deva (Rajinikanth) suspects foul play, which leads him to cross paths with smuggler Simon (Nagarjuna) and port commander Dayalan (Soubin Shahir). As Deva digs deeper, he finds buried truths, personal histories, and a dangerous criminal web emerges. Will Deva be able to solve the mystery? You should watch the Coolie for it.
Performance
The charisma of Rajinikanth at 74 is magnetic, especially in the flashback scenes with de-ageing effects. Moreover, Soubin Shahir delivers a standout act with emotional and action depth. Similarly, Nagarjuna’s antagonist debut is stylish but lacks danger.
On the other hand, Sathyaraj seems impactful despite limited screen time. On the other hand, the role of Shruti Hassan is emotional yet underwritten. Plus, Rachitha Ram’s brief role leaves a twisty impression.
Direction & Technical Aspects
You will find Lokesh Kanagaraj’s trademarks, like non-linear storytelling, retro song cues, and stylized fight choreography, in this movie. However, these signs seem muted in the film. Moreover, the script suffers from pacing issues and incomplete subplots.
Anirudh Ravichander’s soundtrack is promising, but it does not have punch. The movie looks good because of Girish Gangadharan’s filming and its expensive production. However, the editing could be tighter in the film.
Plus Points
- Rajinikanth’s screen presence
- Soubin Shahir’s layered performance
- Select fight scenes
- Emotional moments
Minus Points
- Predictable climax
- Underutilised ensemble
- Disjointed storytelling
- Weak cameos of Aamir Khan
Twitter reaction
A Twitter user is saying that it is the best movie in the career of Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Another user expressed his disappointment with the second half.
A user called Coolie is a full entertainer
Verdict
Coolie is a serviceable action drama because of Rajinikanth’s magnetic existence and some engaging sequences. However, weak storyline and underwhelming executions stop it from being a masterpiece. So, you can watch it for Rajinikanth, but don’t expect a masterpiece.
