Red Pill in Schools: Abu Dhabi Police Dismiss Rumors, Urges Public to Rely on Official Sources

Abu Dhabi Police have firmly denied the viral social media rumors claiming that red pill in schools are being distributed. Plus, Brigadier Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, confirmed that these claims are completely false.

He added, “At the start of every school year, false news resurfaces on social media about the distribution of the red pills in UAE schools among students. I highlight that these claims are not true, and I reassure parents and the public that such pills do not exist in our schools or universities.”

Al Dhaheri explained that these rumors often emerge from online groups looking to undermine the public trust and create panic. Moreover, he said, “The UAE, with its global prominence, naturally attracts detractors who attempt to spread misinformation. Our wise leadership has created a strong and respected nation. However, some malicious actors try to harm this image through falsehood.”

Transparency and Public Trust with Red Pill in Schools

Brigadier Al Dhaheri highlighted that the Abu Dhabi Police maintains a high level of clarity with the public. He said, “We never conceal information from the community. There is a strong mutual trust between the Ministry of Interior, the police, and the public.”

He requested the community to depend solely on official and trustworthy news sources for accurate information. He added, “We call upon everyone not to believe social media rumors and to verify information only through the reliable channels.”

The police clarified that some people have been photographing colorful, ordinary pills to spread fabricated claims that they are being distributed in schools. Al Dhaheri confirmed, “We assure everyone that these are false and misleading claims – our schools are safe and completely free from such substances”.

Addressing Substance Abuse and Rehabilitation

Brigadier Al Dhaheri also spoke about the need to treat recovering drug users with compassion. However, he requested the public to avoid stigmatizing rehabilitated addicts. Moreover, he explained that rejection may also lead them back toward addiction.

Al Dhaheri said, “We must not reject or isolate rehabilitated people. The post-rehabilitation phase is even more critical than the treatment phase itself. Societies are required to embrace them with kindness and understanding to support their integration.”

The  United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse through the National Rehabilitation Center (NRC), schools, and public awareness campaigns. Moreover, the authorities have observed a worrying rise in alternative substances marketed online as safe or legal highs, including misused prescription drugs and household products.

Sophisticated Drug Trafficking Tactics

According to Dubai Public Prosecution, the drug traffickers are using increasingly deceptive methods to smuggle toxic substances into the  United Arab Emirates (UAE) market. Moreover, these substances are often camouflaged as daily products like energy drinks or chewing gum to avoid detection and attract young users.

The World Health Organization warns that many of these new psychoactive substances (NPS) have no medical use and can cause serious harm, including psychosis, seizures, aggression, and addiction. Moreover, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime also reports that NPS are now found in more than 150 countries and are often sold online under misleading names.

Ongoing Awareness Campaigns

Besides drug prevention and busting fake news, Abu Dhabi Police have launched the sixth edition of their “Be Cautious” campaign, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the Cyber Security Council, and leading UAE banks. Moreover, the campaign focuses on raising public awareness about cybercrime and modern fraud schemes.

Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, said the initiative aligns with the UAE Vision 2071 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, focusing on promoting digital safety and public trust in official communications.
