Dubai has officially taken a big leap towards autonomous mobility with the launch of the Robo Taxi with Uber App. So, it offers residents and tourists a hands-on experience of driverless transportation.
Now, the service is live across Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, which are two of the busiest coastal hubs in Dubai. Hence, it marks a historic moment in the smart mobility journey in the UAE.
Expert-Led, Safe, and Future-Ready Autonomous Rides
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with WeRide and Uber Technologies, has rolled out a pilot public robo taxi service in line with its self-driving transport strategy. Now, residents can book a robo taxi with the Uber app simply by selecting the ‘Autonomous’ option.
Every Robotaxi will include a specialist driver onboard for the trial phase. Hence, it ensures a smooth and reliable experience for users as Dubai moves gradually but confidently towards a fully driverless rollout by early 2026.
According to Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, the service is available to all community members and is a key milestone in the growing transport ecosystem in the emirate.

WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, highlighted that the technology that has been tested and validated throughout the world backs the Dubai rollout.

WeRide already operates close to 150 autonomous vehicles in the Middle East, including over 100 Robotaxis, and plans to scale aggressively.

Uber describe the launch of Robo Taxi with Uber App as a part of their strategy to build the largest hybrid network of human drivers and autonomous vehicles in the world.
Sarfraz Maredia, Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous, said, “This launch is an example of our commitment to the vision of the UAE for the future of mobility. It directly contributes to the goal of Dubai of achieving 25 per cent autonomous journeys by 2030.”
The integration of Robo Taxi with Uber App ensures that users like you do not need to learn a new system. Instead, they can simply use the same familiar platform to request the autonomous tides.
Robo Taxi With Uber App: Supporting Dubai’s Growing Mobility Demand
According to Uber, the rapid population expansion of Dubai is now crossing 4 million. Hence, it is increasing the need for smarter mobility options. Below are some stats that prove this growth:
- 153 million+ trips were recorded across public transport, taxis, and shared mobility in 2024.
- Shared mobility usage rose 28% year-on-year in 2024.
- Tourists accounted for a significant portion of ride-hailing demand, especially in beachside zones like Jumeirah in 2024.
These figures prove that the introduction of the Uber Robotaxi service comes at the right time, as Dubai is preparing for tech-driven mobility.

The launch has also strengthened the position of Dubai as a global frontrunner in autonomous mobility, which aligns seamlessly with the goal of the Emirate of having 25 percent of all journeys be autonomous by 2030. In addition, it has also supported the broader plan of Uber and WeRide to deploy thousands of robotaxis across the Middle East.
