Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is in the last stage of a large-scale road rehabilitation project on the busy “Emirates Road”. Notably, the completion of this project is scheduled for 25 August 2025. Moreover, it covers 14km on both sides of the highway. So, it ensures a smoother and safer journey for thousands of motorists daily.
Director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at the Traffic and Roads Agency, Abdullah Lootah, highlighted the scale and importance of work while speaking to the select media outlet during the site visit.
He said, “It is a complete rehab of a 14km broad on both sides. It is considered one of the significant projects of RTA”.
Advanced Technology for Precision Repairs
RTA used laser detection vehicles (LCMS) to check the structural health of the road with guaranteed accuracy. Moreover, the data revealed that the Pavement Quality Index (PPI) of Dubai remains above 90 percent. However, this section has dropped to 85 percent because of the heavy traffic and frequent passage of large vehicles.
Based on these findings, RTA started a comprehensive repair with two to four layers of resurfacing across Sharjah-bound and Abu Dhabi-bound lanes, which covers both fast and slow lanes.
Staged Execution for Minimal Disruption on Emirates Road
The project began two to three months ago. Fortunately, it is now 90 percent completed. Moreover, work has been executed in stages, with weekend-intensive schedules to reduce the disruption.
Lootah added, “We do bear 2 km in just one week and prioritize major works during weekends. Our aim is to finish the project by 25 August”. So, motorists will enjoy the new development after August 25.
Long-Term Benefits for Motorists
This rehabilitation project on the Emirates Road in Dubai is aimed at providing you with many perks. So, we have listed the top benefits that you will get after this development:
- Enhance driving comfort through a smoother surface
- Reduce long-term maintenance costs
- Improve road safety and heavy vehicle operators
This proactive approach from the RTA ensures that the road infrastructure meets the growing transportation demand of Dubai. However, the demand is particularly higher on the Emirates Road because it is one of the busiest inter-emirate highways.
Now, the final touch of this project is going. So, the motorists can soon look forward to an improved driving experience that reflects the commitment of Dubai to the world-class road standards.
