Sharjah Power Outage: Many parts of Sharjah experienced a power outage on Sunday afternoon. It disrupted daily life for residents and businesses across the emirate. Additionally, a sudden technical fault caused the outage, and emergency teams immediately monitored the situation, restored services, and followed strict safety procedures. What Happened on Sunday?

Residents across Sharjah reported electricity cuts starting around 12 pm today. In addition, it led to temporary shutdowns of lifts, Wi-Fi services, ATMs, and air conditioning systems. In addition, the power outage Sharjah affected the following activities:
- Lifts stopped working in high-rise buildings
- ATMs became temporarily unavailable
- Internet connectivity was disrupted in several neighbourhoods

Later, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) confirmed that the disruption was due to a localised emergency fault, which activated automatic protection systems designed to protect the power grid. It indicated that the disruption was temporary.

The Sharjah power outage impacted the following districts based on resident reports and official updates:
- Al Majaz (Jamal Abdul Nasser Street and nearby areas)
- Al Taawun
- Al Nahda
- Al Khan
- Al Mamzar
- Muwaileh
- Rahmania suburbs
- Buhairah Corniche
- Al Zahia
- Kalba

Residents and businesses said that the outage affected routine activities in the region. According to posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), some residents experienced intermittent power restoration. In contrast, others reported continued outages for several hours.

How Were Residents Affected?

The outage disrupted residential and commercial activity across Sharjah.
Abu Eman, a Sharjah resident, told Khaleej Times, “I was renewing my tenancy contract when the power suddenly went out, and the transaction was cancelled.”
Another resident, Ahmed Ali from Al Taawun, said ATM machines stopped working during the outage, which prevented him from making cash withdrawals. Shoppers in supermarkets and malls also reported abandoning purchases after waiting for electricity to return.
Several residents have reported frustration over the sudden blackout in the emirate.

Some shopping centres, including Sahara Centre, experienced outages. Therefore, it forced shoppers to use their mobile phone flashlights inside stores.
Official Response From Authorities
SEWA has confirmed that technical teams were deployed immediately to isolate the fault and inspect affected sections before restoring power. Moreover, the authority stated that electricity had already been restored in several areas after safety checks.
The Sharjah Government Media Bureau confirmed on social media that the outage was an unforeseen technical issue and thanked residents for their patience.
SEWA also reassured residents that such outages remain rare in the UAE due to strong grid resilience and rapid-response mechanisms.
