Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council,  Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has ordered that the Dubai Mallathon be staged every summer from the 15th of June to the 15th of September.

The decision comes after the overwhelming success of the inaugural edition, which set the Guinness World Record for the largest number of runners in a mall run event. However, the event was conducted at Dubai Hills Mall, which has attracted 1392 participants from different nationalities and age groups. So, it highlights the growing status of Dubai as a hub for community sporting events.

Dubai Mallathon: A New Summer Fitness Tradition

The three-month campaign is going to convert shopping malls into indoor and jogging tracks to give residents and visitors a safe and climate-controlled space to stay active during the hottest months of the year.

Moreover, the participation in this campaign is free and open to all. Thus, it makes it an inclusive activity that matches the vision of Dubai to motivate healthier and happier communities.

Sheikh Hamdan’s Vision for Sports and Society

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that Mallathon is more than a sporting event because it is a platform for developing stronger communities.

He said, “Sports in Dubai have strengthened into a common language, a way of life, and a powerful form of self-expression. We can inspire sustainable change and promote healthy living and social cohesion.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is also guiding the initiative under his vision. Moreover, the campaign supports the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which focus on community well-being and inclusivity.

Highlights from the First Edition

The recently concluded Mallaton has recorded impressive results. We have listed the highlights from this edition below:

  • 40,000 participants of all ages and nationalities
  • 120 million steps logged in nine major shopping malls
  • A 42-kilometre marathon with 40 runners

The event was arranged in partnership with the  Dubai Sports Council and under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Defence. So, it highlights the dedication of Dubai to community-focused campaigns.

Building a Culture of Movement

The order from Sheikh Hamdan ensures that the Dubai Mallathon will now be the annual summer fixture. So, it gives every segment of society chances to engage in physical activity. In addition, the campaign is focused on inspiring a lifestyle where sport and fitness become a daily habit.
