Residents in some parts of the UAE were greeted with a rare and refreshing rainfall on Saturday, August 9, 2025, while battling the intense summer heat. Moreover, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported showers over Fujairah, Al Ain, and other eastern coast regions. So, this summer rain gives a brief relief from the soaring temperatures.
Video clips shared by the Storm Centre captured steady rain along the scenic eastern roads. In addition, it captured a raindrop on the windshield and wet pavement shining under the downpour. So, the overcast skies bring a cool grey shade in opposite to the dry and blazing conditions/
Heavy rain fell in Al Ain later in the day. So, it prompts the Abu Dhabi Police to request motorists to drive cautiously and adhere to the road safety limits displayed on the electronic boards. So, the NCM had predicted rainfall in localized regions with warnings of extreme heat. In addition, some regions are expected to hit 48°C.
Heatwave Still Dominates Most of the UAE
Despite the rainfall, most regions of the nation are under the hold of the intense summer heat. As per AccuWeather, Dubai recorded highs of 42°C with hazy sunshine in the daytime. On the other hand, Abu Dhabi endured 45°C under full sun. Moreover, the coastal regions saw temperatures ranging between 40 to 45°C, and the mountainous regions saw highs of 32–38°C.
The conditions for tonight are expected to stay warm and humid. So, the temperature in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is ranging around 34°C. Therefore, residents are requested to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, especially during peak hours. In addition, it would be best to stay well-hydrated.
Winds, Dust, and Sea Conditions
The NCM predicts southeasterly to northeasterly winds at speeds of 10–25 km/h. In addition, it could be strengthened to 40 km/hr with cloud activity. So, blowing dust might reduce visibility in a few areas. Moreover, the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are expected to be normal to moderate in wave height.
Why does Summer Rain happen in the UAE?
These rains might be a surprise for newcomers. However, convective cloud formation in the eastern and southern regions is not uncommon in the UAE. So, meteorologist warns that such showers do not signal an end to extreme heat risks. In addition, authorities urge residents to follow the official updates and take safety precautions during this unusual weather.
