o, we are again here with the Tehran movie review. When it begins, it does not rush with explosions or grand entrances. Instead, the movie draws you into an intense and slow-burning world where personal grief mixes with geopolitical tension. Since it is based on the real-life 2012 attack on Israeli diplomats in India, the film combines intelligence with human emotions. So, it offers a refreshing change from formulaic action thrillers.
Tehran Movie Review: Plot & Storyline
John Abraham is playing DCP Rajeev Kumar of Delhi Police’s Special Cell. Notably, he is performing tasks while investigating a car bombing near the Israeli Embassy. However, the case became personal for him because of a young flower-seller whom he met among the casualties.
Moreover, the investigation leads him to a maze of diplomatic tension between India, Iran, and Israel, which makes a global tightrope that forces Rajeev to handle politics as much as crime. However, the turning point occurs when bureaucratic delays made Rajeev frustrated. Therefore, he decides to go rogue.
His face-of-the-record mission raises the stakes and poses the main question: What is justice when diplomacy can mute the truth?
Tehran Review Performance
John Abraham delivers one of his most nuanced performances yet in raw, restrained, and far removed from his usual action-hero persona. Similarly, Neeru Bajwa shines as diplomat Shilaka because she commands every scene with poise.
Meanwhile, Manushi Chillar impresses in a limited yet important role as SI Divya Rana. In addition, Hadi Khajanpur’s portrayal of suspected terrorist Asraf Khan avoids clichés because he chooses subtle menace over exaggerated villainy.
Direction, Screenplay & Technical Brilliance
Director Arun Gopalan keeps Tehran grounded and real, which avoids unnecessary patriotism and over-the-top drama. Moreover, Ritesh Shah, Ashish P. Verma, and Bindni Karia wrote the script smartly that lets the audience think for themselve.
Ievgen Gubrebko and Andre Menezes do the camerawork beautifully, which shows the difference between Delhi and Tehran due to controlled settings. Moreover, Ketan Sodha’s background music builds tension without being too loud.
In addition, Action scenes feel realistic and never distract from the main theme of diplomacy and sacrifice. Notably, some dialogues were in Farsi. However, subtitles are there to help.
