If you are heading to the iconic Jebel Hafeet of Al Ain this winter, you have to stay alert, as you will see a warning: barbecuing is no longer allowed in several designated areas. Authorities have officially announced a UAE barbecue ban in key parking zones. However, fines could reach Dh4,000 for repeated violations.
UAE Barbecue ban: What Has Changed?

Local authorities have introduced strict restrictions on outdoor grilling at Jebel Hafeet, particularly in parking and non-designated picnic zones. Below are the key changes under the UAE barbecue ban:
- Authorities strictly prohibit barbecue and BBQ grills in several parking areas of Jebel Hafeet.
- Warning signboards have been installed across parking lots and popular picnic spots
- Fines start at Dh1,000 for first-time offenders
- Second violation: Dh2,000 fine
- Third violation: Dh4,000 fine
- The rule applies immediately, following notices published on January 4, 2026
According to a regulation notice, the ban was introduced due to rising concern over littering, charcoal waste, fire hazards, and damage to the mountain’s natural environment. In addition, it aims to improve public safety during the peak winter tourism season.

Why Was the Ban Introduced?

Authorities state that the decision follows repeated incidents connected to unsafe grilling methods. According to the officials, disposable charcoal grills left under vehicles have previously caused vehicle fires. Therefore, officials had to take emergency call-outs.
Jebel Hafeel is popular for its panoramic views and cooler winter climate. Hence, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, especially during the winter. Thus, the Department of Municipalities and Transport and Al Ain City Municipality are tightening enforcement to curb environmental damage and maintain the scenic beauty of the area.
Officials have also highlighted the growing volume of waste left behind after weekend picnics, which has negatively affected the surrounding ecosystem and public spaces such as Green Mubazzarah Park.

Many residents have already noticed the change. Dubai resident Ahmed Malik told Khaleej Times, “We visited during the National Day holidays, and there were no signboards earlier . This time, warning boards were placed on multiple parking lots”.

The ban is introduced under Abu Dhabi Law No. (2) of 2012, which concerns the preservation of public appearance, health, and tranquillity in public spaces. The notice of the Department of Municipalities and Transport and Al Ain City Municipality has stated that failure to comply with the prohibition or warning boards carries escalating penalties.

Official signboard across the Jebel Hafeet state, “Barbecue/BBQ is strictly prohibited in this area. Violation may result in a penalty.”
Authorities have also confirmed that similar warning signs have been placed in non-designated areas of Green Mubazzarah Park to prevent misuse and protect the area’s natural beauty.
