UAE to Start of Rabi Al Awwal on August 25, Prophet’s Birthday on September 5

The International Astronomy Center in the United Arab Emirates has confirmed that the Islamic month of Rabi Al Awwal will officially begin on the 25th of August, 2025, Monday, after the crescent moon was not sighted on Saturday, August 23.

According to the astronomers, it was astronomically impossible to see the crescent pm Saturday through the naked eye, telescopes, or advanced imaging technology. However, the visibility improved on Sunday, i.e, today, August 24, when the crescent became clearly visible across most Arab countries. So, the difference in visibility results in different start dates for the new month across the region.

The Islamic month in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Palestine, Egypt, and Tunisia on the 24th of August 2024.

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday: September 5

The astronomical announcement also revealed that the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, which marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), will be on the 5th of September 2025, a Friday. 

This special occasion is expected to bring a three-day weekend for residents in the UAE. So, many residents and expats are preparing for the extended holiday because the date coincides with Friday, which aligns with the regular weekend, i.e, Saturday and Sunday.
