  1. New Friday timing

Private schools in Dubai will finish classes at 11:30 AM on Fridays from January 9, 2026. The move is linked to the nationwide move of Friday prayer time to 12:45 pm, effective 2nd January 2026.

  1. Strict attendance limits

If you are a parent who stretches the long weekend, you should stay alert now because the UAE schools have strict attendance rules. Below are those rules:

  • Max 5 unexcused absences per term
  • Max 15 per academic year
  • Risk of repeating the year if exceeded
  • Fridays and holidays-adjacent absences may count as two days

It is not a January change, as the MoE is planning to introduce it. The UAE is shifting the KG and Grade 1 admissions age cut-off to the 31st of December of the admission year (instead of 31st of August 31 for many schools).
