UAE Expands UAE Passport Renewal Window to One Year Before Expiry

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has revealed a significant update to the UAE passport renewal. Notably, this new rule will be effective from the 18th of August 2025. Therefore, Emirati residents will be able to renew their passports up to one year before the expiry date.

Previously, renewals were only allowed within six months of expiration. Therefore, this change is aimed at giving citizens greater flexibility and convenience. Thus, it helps you to avoid last-minute travel disruptions and ease administrative workloads.

Enhanced Convenience for Citizens

The ICP has requested citizens to make use of this extended renewal window. In addition, officials highlighted that renewal well in advance will prevent delays, especially for those planning overseas trips during busy holiday seasons.

Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the ICP, said this new decision matches the ongoing efforts of the authority to streamline service and improve efficiency in the renewal and issuance of the Emirati passport.

He said,” The UAE passport ranks among the strongest globally for strength, reliability, and international recognition. This decision further empowers its global standing and supports our goal to make the UAE’s passport issuing system a leading model worldwide.”

Supporting the UAE’s Global Passport Ranking

The UAE passport is consistently ranked at the top of the international passport indexes due to its visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to many nations. Moreover, the extended renewal window is expected to boost the user experience and ensure that citizens maintain access to one of the most powerful travel documents in the world.

The extension of the UAE passport renewal window is Part of a Broader Service Improvement Plan.

The new policy shows the commitment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to service excellence. In addition, the nation is aimed to accept policies that inspire other countries. Moreover, the ICP focuses on making passport services smooth and more efficient. Thus, the nation is trying to make the passport services align with the vision of the nation for innovation in governance.

This update is a part of a series of campaigns that are developed to simplify the processes of administration. In addition, it aims to maintain the high standards of security and reliability for which the UAE passport is popular. In short, the decision to extend the period of UAE passport renewal is aimed at strengthening the passport status globally and helping citizens and residents.
