The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has revealed a new rule. So, it allows parents of schoolchildren in the UAE to access flexible work hours to help manage drop-off and pick-up at the start of the new academic year.
Flexible working hours
According to the FAHR, federal ministries and government businesses are required to let their employees up to three hours of flexible working time on the first day of school. So, the adjustment is developed to support the parents accompanying their children to school. In addition, it ensures that they settle back into their routine at their home.
Extended Flexibility for Nursery and Kindergarten Families
The ministry understands the challenges that families with younger students face. Therefore, it has extended the policy to daily flexibility of up to three hours for an entire week for the parents of students who study in the Nursery or Kindergarten. So, this decision is focused on easing the transition into the new pick-up and drop-off routines.
Support for School Events
Apart from the first week, parents are allowed to benefit from the flexibility policy throughout the year. Therefore, employees can request up to three hours off to attend an important school-related event, like parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, or special activities.
Manager Approval and School Calendar Considerations
The FAHR highlighted that the flexibilities are required to match each company’s existing workplace and needs approval from the direct manager of employees. In addition, employers should consider differences in school start dates across curricula, such as British, American, and Indian systems, to ensure fairness for all employees.
Why This Matters for Families and Workplaces?
This campaign shows the dedication of the UAE to supporting work-life balance and empowering family values. In addition, the country understands the importance of parental involvement in education. So, the policy focused on reducing stress for employees and their children. So, it ultimately boosts the workplace productivity and family well-being
This policy provides much-needed reassurance for parents managing professional and personal responsibilities because more than one million students across the nation are preparing for the new academic year.
This policy is a much-needed support for the employees whose children are studying in the UAE schools. Moreover, the one-week extension for the parents of younger children provides them with an opportunity to settle into this new schedule.
