UAE Residents Warned Against Sophisticated Online Scams and Fraud Calls

The UAE Cybersecurity Council, in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Police, has released a fresh alert requesting residents to stay more alert against online scams. In addition, the authorities have urged residents to exercise extreme caution when receiving phone calls and messages from unknown sources. Moreover, the advisory highlighted the growing nature of cyber fraud in the nation.

Scammers Using Advanced Tactics to Deceive Victims

According to the officials, online fraud is becoming more complicated, which makes it difficult to detect scams before the personal or financial damage is done. The council said,” Online frauds are no longer limited to the traditional methods, but now exploit digital services, smart applications, and online networks to attract a victim.” This statement shows how cybercriminals are now using modern ways to impersonate legitimate services. Therefore, it makes their schemes appear authentic and professional.

Recent Investigation Reveals Multi-Layered Scam Syndicate

In July, an investigation revealed the presence of large-scale online trading alliances in the UAE. Moreover, the syndicate has been operated through fraudulent call centres, fake investment platforms, and shell companies to siphon funds from unsuspecting victims. Moreover, many of those victims believed they were investing in genuine opportunities.

Police Highlight Common Online Scam Methods

  •  Clicking on fake advertisements in search engines
  • Falling for fraudulent job offers

Authorities have highlighted the importance of using approved and secure applications when making transactions and submitting personal data online.
