Star lovers around the Emirates should prepare themselves for a spectacular celestial treat as the UAE is preparing to witness its first total lunar eclipse in seven years on September 7, 2025, Sunday. In addition, the event is also known as the blood moon because it is a rare case that will cast dramatic shades of red and orange. Hence, it is one of the most anticipated astronomical sights of the decade.
Event Details and Timings
The International Astronomical Center reports that all seven emirates in the UAE will be able to see the total lunar eclipse starting at 7:28 PM GST, when the Moon enters Earth’s shadow.
Moreover, the total phase of tomorrow’s eclipse will begin around 9:31 PM and last for 82 minutes, when the moon will become intensely red. However, 10:12 PM will be the peak time of this event. Around 12:55 AM on Monday, September 8, it will end.
The center will livestream the eclipse from the Al Khatim Observatory in Abu Dhabi for residents who are not able to attend the public event to ensure global accessibility.
